Target: President Kim Jong-un and the North Korean Government
Goal: Close political torture camps Kwanliso 15 & 16 in North Korea
Two torture camps in North Korea must be closed immediately. Kwanliso 15 and Kwanliso 16 are political torture camps in North Korea where prisoners are inhumanely and unjustly tortured and murdered. After diligent investigations conducted by Amnesty International, it has been found that these captives are forced to dig their own graves and are then killed by multiple blows to the neck. This is just one example of the heinous acts being committed in these camps.
Amnesty International conducted an interview with a former security official from Kwanliso 16 and he revealed, “After a night of ‘servicing’ officials, women had to die because the secret could not get out. This happens at most of the political prison camps.” These political torture camps are kept a secret to keep North Korea more off the radar than they already appear to the rest of the world, and in order to keep this secret, major human rights violations occur.
Many of the prisoners at these camps are completely innocent of any crimes. A majority of them simply know someone who has fallen out of favor with Kim Jong-un. In essence, every imaginable aspect of human rights is being deliberately violated.
By signing the petition below, you will urge President Kim Jong-un and North Korean government officials to acknowledge these torture camps and shut them down immediately.
Dear President Kim Jong-un and the North Korean Government,
The existence of political torture camps Kwanliso 15 and Kwanliso 16 are in direct violation of human rights. Forcing prisoners to dig their own graves and then brutally beating them to death is horrifying. Instances of prison officials strangling prisoners and beating them with wooden sticks is the reality of these camps.
Amnesty International has conducted interviews with former prison officials and one of them revealed, “After a night of ‘servicing’ officials, women had to die because the secret could not get out. This happens at most of the political prison camps.” The operative examples of sex slavery and murder are being committed at these camps everyday by the thousands.
The detainees being held in Kwanliso 15 and Kwanliso 16 are by majority completely innocent of war crimes or treason. Many prisoners are sent to these camps without a charge or a trial. A greater portion of the detained population just had the misfortune of being an acquaintance to a person who has fallen out of favor with President Kim Jong-un.
I am urging you to shut down Kwanliso 15 and Kwanliso 16 immediately and that you create a fair and just system of crime and punishment.
