Reject Conservative Group’s Assault on Clean Energy

Target: Ron Scheberle, Executive Director of the American Legislative Exchange Council

Goal: End assault on clean energy

The American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, is known for pushing a conservative policy agenda behind a veil of secrecy. Among model bills it promotes are those that would weaken states’ clean energy regulations, push through the Keystone XL pipeline, and bar oversight into fracking–considered among the most dangerous and polluting methods of extracting natural gas.

Homeowners with solar panels that hooked up to the main grid are often compensated for the extra power they generate. But ALEC would like to see homeowners charged, rather than rewarded, for contributing to a clean energy future. John Eick, legislative analyst for ALEC’s energy, environment and agriculture program has spoken out about the group’s rationale. According to Eick, “As it stands now, those direct generation customers are essentially freeriders on the system. They are not paying for the infrastructure they are using. In effect, all the other non direct generation customers are being penalized.”

While concerned scientists around the world continue to sound the climate change alarm, ALEC’s focus remains on undermining sustainability efforts–sponsoring more than 77 energy bills in 2012 alone. The world needs more investment in renewable solutions, not less. Tell ALEC that you wholeheartedly reject the group’s assault on clean energy.

Dear Ron Scheberle, Executive Director of the American Legislative Exchange Council,

Recently ALEC has been making headlines again, this time for promoting policies that undermine clean energy on every possible front. From penalizing homeowners for contributing energy to the grid with solar panels, to blocking the President’s efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions, these are terrible recommendations for our country.

As a member of the concerned public, I am deeply troubled by ALEC’s assault on clean energy. How can you justify recent attempts to ban oversight into fracking, and to push through the Keystone XL despite overwhelming national and international opposition? Your group seeks to protect energy industry profits at the cost of our children and grandchildren’s futures, and this is wholly unacceptable.

Citizens are getting wise, calling their elected representatives to count for supporting such nearsighted policies and opposing the groups that promote them. I reject ALEC’s assault on clean energy, and urge you to abandon this agenda now and in the future.

Oh, ALEC just wants more control.

  2. Joshua Ford says:

Oh, ALEC just wants more power and control, even though that such action has not factually supported this nation whatsoever as far I can find. The only instances people seem to think up are backless assumptions. But, notice how I did not actually indicate who or what wants the power and control.
