Target: Hannah Kellems, student at Georgia Regents University
Goal: Applaud Ms. Kellems for defending animals that were being abused on Georgia Regent’s campus
Recently, a student in the Georgia Regents University (GRU) dental school stood up against animal testing on campus. Hannah Kellems, a freshman at GRU, witnessed a video taken at her University that featured dogs being subjected to painful dental procedures. Kellems has decided to transfer colleges due to the exposed cruelty, and has convinced another student to change schools as well. Kellems is responding to the cruelty in an impactful manner: giving tuition money to a more responsible college, rather than support animal injustice.
The video that encouraged Kellems to change schools was filmed and released by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The HSUS went undercover at the school for three months to observe medical procedure testing. The alleged findings were gut-wrenching: dogs were being used in dental implant experiments, dogs’ teeth were removed and replaced, their jaws were stitched up after surgery and the video showed a dead dog lying on a table. Kellems noted that she did not want to go to a school that is being targeted for animal abuse, as she is studying to be a veterinarian.
Kellems sent a letter of disgust to the president of GRU, but did not receive a satisfactory response. Kellems plans to attend college somewhere else for the remainder of her education, and has convinced a friend to join her. By refusing to give any more money to GRU and by making the animal abuse issue public, Kellems is giving the abused dogs at GRU a voice. Applaud Kellems for making the right decision.
Dear Hannah Kellems,
I am writing to applaud your bravery and compassion for the abused dogs at GRU. Your decision to leave the college after video of dogs being subjected to painful dental procedures was released is noble and appreciated. Thank you for bringing this issue to light, and for supporting the Humane Society of the United States in their campaign to end animal abuse.
Animals should not be used by humans to test anything, from cosmetics to dental procedures. It is my understanding that you contacted the president of GRU, Dr. Ricardo Azziz, about the abuse happening on his campus; you received a non-sentimental response. Please utilize my signature, as well as all of the signatures generated by this petition, to show the president that you are not the only one fighting for these dogs. The animal testing happening at GRU is wrong, antiquated and will not be tolerated for long.
I wish you luck in your quest for a school that shares your ethics, and in your future career.
