Target: Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster
Goal: Stop a serial animal abuser from harming or breeding any more animals.
Alarmed citizens told the Humane Society of Missouri (HSM) that a property had been housing over 250 animals since 2010. Working in support of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task was able to rescue these animals from the awful conditions they were in.
Numerous news articles have claimed that the owner of the property, Velma Muessemeyer, bred the animals and sold them as pets to young children. Muessemeyer was banned by Franklin County prosecutors from having any more than two dogs and a few other animals for the next two years. According to the HSM website, there were a total of 192 rabbits, 25 goats, 10 cats, 21 chickens, 4 dogs, and 1 duck on her property. Most of the animals were piled in cages, and the water that was being given to them was not clean and even worse, was infested with feces. The rescued animals are now being taken to animal shelters and rescue ranches to be properly cared for.
Please sign this petition to support the Humane Society of Missouri’s work to take these animals away from Velma Muessemeyer for good. This is an unacceptable situation for all the animals, and it must be stopped.
Dear Attorney General Chris Koster,
Velma Muessemeyer has put 250 animals in a deplorable situation. She has been a careless breeder who kept these animals in filthy cages and fed them dirty and contaminated food and water. Even with warnings from the court agreements, she was still not able to give proper care to her animals.
She needs to be fined with animal cruelty charges and not allowed to breed animals ever again. These types of breeders end up selling sick or injured animals to young children, and the families end up having to fix problems that they did not create. These kinds of insensitive breeders not only make the animals suffer, but also become a huge problem to tax payers. No animals should ever have to go through what these 250 animals did. Animal cruelty must be stopped and Muessemeyer needs to be fined and put in jail.
