Punish Blogger for Encouraging Eating Disorders

Target: Blogger “Tuthmosis” of website “Return of Kings”

Goal: Convince blogger to retract insensitive comments about eating disorders

A blog entitled “5 Reasons to Date a Girl with an Eating Disorder” has gone viral on the internet after being labeled insensitive and offensive. The blog, written by “Tuthmosis” on the website Return of Kings highlights the reasons why dating a girl with an eating disorder is a good thing, and in many cases, better than dating a girl without one. There has been a great deal of controversy surrounding this article, suggesting that it may have unrightfully crossed some boundaries.

The writer’s post opens with a background on his history of dating girls with eating disorders. It then explains how his experience has given him expertise on the subject and lists the pros of dating a girl with an eating disorder. One doesn’t have to worry about such a woman getting fat, he reasons – her unhealthy disorder will keep her fit and trim. He discusses financial benefits as well, suggesting that girls with eating disorders generally come from families with money, and that you can save money dating a girl with an eating disorder because you won’t have to spend a lot on food. Possibly the most insensitive comment deals with the fact that because girls with eating disorders are insecure, they will not be “difficult and obnoxious” because they are too vulnerable, and feel the need to be accepted.

Although these statements may be what he has observed from personal experience, they are written in a very crude manner (he even manages to insult overweight girls once or twice). Basically, this article is not encouraging for any type of girl. To girls with eating disorders, it points out their flaws of “weakness” and “insecurity,” making them seem both crazy and helpless. For girls who do not struggle with eating disorders, it may make them worry that men are going to be more inclined to want to date these girls who “keep up with themselves” and “won’t get fat.”

The writer of this blog should make attempts to rectify his mistakes and apologize for all that he is offended.

Please sign the petition below to ask Tuthmosis to retract his statements or apologize to those who were negatively affected by the article.

Dear Tuthmosis,

As you are aware, your recent article “5 Reasons to Date a Girl With an Eating Disorder” has stirred up and immense amount of controversy and offended many. Although the article was meant to be satirical, it poked fun of some very serious issues. You managed to target girls with eating disorders, girls without eating disorders, and overweight girls, portraying them all in a negative light.

Your article generalized these types of girls in very negative ways. In a society where women are constantly criticized and put under pressure for their body image, it is low to contribute to this sort of unnecessary behavior.

We ask that you take in upon yourself to apologize, retract your statements, or take any actions necessary to rectify your errors for all who were offended by the article.
