Target: Dayna Morales
Goal: Demand that homophobic family apologize for denying waitress a tip based on her appearance and sexual orientation.
Recently, Dayna Morales, a server at The Gallop Asian Bistro in New Jersey, was denied a tip on a nearly $100 dollar bill all because of her ‘gay lifestyle.’
Morales received an offensive and homophobic note on the back of a receipt that read “…sorry I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & the way you live your life…” The family, who chooses to remain unidentified, was allegedly ‘shocked and appalled’ when Dayna approached their table sporting a short haircut. When Morales introduced herself as their server, the mother went on to state, “Oh, I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan…you sure surprised us!”
Morales, who is actually a Marine, blasted the family by posting the receipt on the Facebook page of the non-profit Have A Gay Day, stating: “I am thoroughly offended, mad, pissed off, and hurt that this is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free.”
Apparently, having short hair is a unique and fool-proof identifier of someone’s sexuality. Although Dayna Morales’ story may seem outrageous, it’s not the first of its kind to be made public.
A young waiter in Kansas found a disgusting note on the back of his receipt after serving a family of Christian diners that read “We hope you will see the tip your fag choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly.” And, earlier this year, a lesbian couple who dined at a cafe was given an anti-gay note with their bill from the owner stating that homosexuality was an act against God’s will.
By signing this petition, you’ll demand that the homophobic family who denied Dayna Morales a well deserved tip apologize for their foolish behavior, and stand up for all gay food service workers who face imminent discrimination.
Dear Dayna Morales,
The recent act of homophobia you experienced is nothing short of disgraceful, and I stand with you wholeheartedly against the appalling actions of the family who cheated you out of a well deserved tip. Your appearance did not warrant such brash language and I respect what you do, as a Marine and food server, for our country.
It is deplorable that we still live in a society where being a part of the LGBT community denies you basic rights and respect, and, allegedly, keeps you from earning an honest living. I demand that the family who discriminated against you so barbarically apologize for their actions immediately, and be held accountable for their prejudiced behavior.
I apologize on behalf of their ignorance and I hope that you never have to experience such hurtful homophobic actions ever again.
