Target: John Polis, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Best Friends Animal Society
Goal: Encourage animal shelters to host adoption fairs in order to maximize the chances that animals find new homes
Using adoption fairs to help animals find new homes can make a huge impact on the current population of homeless animals. Often, a deterrent that can prevent future pet owners from getting their animal from the pound or a rescue is the perception that such establishments have a depressing atmosphere. Many people dread walking into a pound or shelter and having to endure the sight of caged animal after caged animal, yearning to be adopted. However, adoption fairs avoid this dilemma by transforming what could otherwise be a depressing experience into an uplifting one.
Best Friends Animal Society is an advocate for animal adoption fairs, each of which host hundreds of animals in need of a good home. The fairs liven the atmosphere with food trucks, entertainment, and the benefit of being outside in a welcoming location. The energy of adoption fairs also encourages people to adopt. Being at a fair, surrounded by animal lovers, can sway someone who is on the fence about adopting towards the decision of saving a life. A simple change in venue can create an incredible difference. Sign this petition to support adoption fairs and encourage more to be hosted.
Dear Mr. Polis, Manager of Best Friends Animal Society,
This letter wishes to support the noble efforts that Best Friends Animal Society has taken in order to find good, caring homes for animals in need. By hosting adoption fairs, animals in need of a good home are more likely to be adopted. The warm and pleasant atmosphere of an adoption fair tends to create a vibrant energy that motivates people to reach out and adopt animals in need of good homes. Another benefit of adoption fairs is that they put the issue of animal homelessness in the public eye, thereby raising awareness about the problem.
Please continue to host animal adoption fairs in order to maximize the chances that homeless animals have of being adopted and finding new homes. It would also be wonderful to see Best Friends Animal Society help other shelters to have their own independent adoption fairs. Adoption Fairs are an effective structure for hosting pet adoptions, and if other shelters can be inspired to take the initiative to implement similar fairs, an incredible impact could be made.
