Target: Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy
Goal: Demand Officer Gildardo Sierra be removed from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for shooting three innocent victims in the past six months
Chicago Police Officer Gildardo Sierra was recently acquitted of all charges brought against him for shooting an innocent man nearly 16 times while on duty. This is the third person Officer Sierra has shot within the past 6 months – and he hasn’t suspended from the force for even a day. He also admitted to drinking multiple beers before beginning his work shift. Demand Gildardo Sierra be removed from the CPD for unnecessarily shooting and killing three people, one of which he shot while inebriated.
Officer Sierra’s most recent victim is a man named Flint Farmer. The officer stated he drank multiple beers before beginning his shift and mistook Farmer’s cell phone as a weapon. Officer Sierra claimed this was enough justification for firing his weapon 16 times, with three bullets entering Farmer’s back as he was lying on the ground. Despite video evidence of Officer Sierra’s actions, he will not face any criminal charges. He was also not administered a breathalyzer test until nearly five hours following the shooting, so it is impossible to determine his blood alcohol level at the time he killed Farmer.
The CPD admitted an incredibly disturbing fact: the department has not implemented a way to track officers’ shooting records. Superintendent Garry McCarthy admitted Officer Sierra should not have been allowed back on the street after the first two shootings. And yet due to poor management within the CPD, Officer Sierra continued to carry a gun and work to “protect” the people of Chicago. Clearly the entire system is in desperate need of an update as only 19 out of 10,149 complaints of excessive force, false arrest, illegal searches, sexual abuse, or racial abuse cases resulted in police suspension of a week or more.
It seems quite evident that Officer Sierra is not fit to serve the Chicago Police Department. He has shot and killed three people over the last six months, firing over 16 rounds at his latest victim Flint Farmer while potentially inebriated. Farmer’s cell phone was mistaken for a weapon and just like that his life was over. These three deaths should not be in vain. Demand Officer Sierra be removed from the police force and his rights to carry a weapon revoked.
Dear Superintendent McCarthy,
I recently learned about Officer Gildardo Sierra’s third shooting within the past six months. He will not be facing any criminal charges for his action but he should be removed from the police force for his actions.
Officer Sierra admitted to having drunk multiple beers before the shift where he mistook Flint Farmer’s cell phone for a weapon and discharged his gun 16 times. These actions alone seem to be evidence enough that Officer Sierra should be dismissed. In a statement you released to the Chicago Tribune, you said that he should not have been allowed back on the streets after the first two victims.
Please find justice for these three victims and ensure Officer Sierra is released from his duties.
