Target: Starbucks Chief Executive, Howard Schultz
Goal: Thank the company for their plans to hire veterans and active duty spouses.
The popular coffee chain Starbucks recently announced their decision to hire 10,000 veterans and active-duty spouses over the next five years. Starbucks’ plans for global expansion will require a large number of new employees, and they state that military veterans and active duty spouses will be their main priority.
At a time when it is difficult to find employment in America, it is even more difficult for veterans. Many veterans give up chances to earn degrees so they can join the armed forces, and once they get out they have trouble finding jobs because they are being filled by those with more extensive education. It is for this reason that efforts should be made to help veterans find jobs, and it is very noble for Starbucks to take such a stand.
While many may view this as an act of charity for veterans, or even discrimination against those not in the armed forces, the company says that it not what they intend in their decision. Chief Executive Howard Schultz says that they would like to hire these people because they know they are highly skilled and have great leadership potential.
On top of their plans to hire more veterans and active duty spouses, Starbucks also plans to turn two of its locations into community stores in which a portion of profits will go to non-profit organizations aimed to assist veterans with finding employment.
Please sign the petition below to thank Starbucks for their positive efforts to assist veterans and their families:
Dear Howard Schultz,
We are delighted to hear about your recent decision to employ 10,000 veterans and active duty spouses over the next five years. The current economic state of our country makes it difficult for the average person to find a job, but even more difficult for veterans. Since many veterans chose the armed forces over schooling, most jobs are first given to those who have a college degree.
This opportunity you have created is very positive and provides optimism for veterans and active-duty spouses. Most of these people are highly skilled and have great leadership qualities, making them great candidates to work for your company.
Thank you again for your awareness and efforts to help those who need it most.
