Target: Kraft Foods CEO, W. Anthony Vernon
Goal: Thank Kraft for taking steps to create healthier and more natural food products.
The popular grocery manufacturing company Kraft recently made the decision to remove the artificial dyes Yellow No. 5 and 6 from some of its macaroni and cheese products. This will greatly improve the quality of the products, as these dyes serve no practical purpose but instead cause a myriad of health problems. The removal of the dyes comes after a petition for the company to abandon these substances got over 348,000 signatures.
The artificial dyes have been linked to issues such as asthma, skin problems, hyperactivity and even cancer. This is because the particular dyes they use are petroleum based, and have even been banned completely in some instances due to their threats. It is frightening that Kraft products have contained these substances for so long, and it is eye-opening to realize that so many food products out there could contain similar harmful substances without consumers being aware of it. These substances should not be in any food, and it is a large success that they are finally being removed from Kraft products.
Kraft intends to replace these dyes with spices such as paprika, which will add color to the food items. This is a tremendous victory for the food industry, especially when it comes to products targeted to children. There is no reason companies should be using ingredients that are proven to be harmful, when in most cases there is a much safer alternative.
Please sign the petition below to thank Kraft for taking steps towards becoming more healthy and natural.
Dear W. Anthony Vernon,
Thank you for your recent decision to remove Yellow No. 5 and 6 from some of your macaroni and cheese products. The artificial dyes were a useless product that could have easily been replaced with a harmless ingredient, and it is reassuring to hear that action has finally been taken.
It is shocking that these dyes were dangerous enough to cause issues such as asthma, skin problems, hyperactivity and cancer. These chemicals should not be in any products consumed by humans, and it is our hope that you eventually decide to eliminate the dyes from any of your products that may contain them.
On behalf of the consumers of your products, thank you for removing harmful substances from the food you sell, and please continue to make efforts to improve the quality of the food your customers are buying.
