Stop Putting Harmful Food Dyes in Candy

Target: Mars, Incorporated
Goal: Stop using unsafe food dyes in candy that may cause harm to children

Halloween season has just ended and almost every child in America has a huge bag of candy from trick-or-treating this year. But do you know what is really in your child’s bag of candy? The Food and Drug Administration has warned the public of products found in Mars’ processed candies that may cause cancer and hyperactive behavior in children. Mars Company needs to recognize the health problems that their product is causing and replace the harmful ingredients with better natural ingredients.

The problem is specifically found in food coloring dye used to make the hard candy coating for a majority of their candy, such as their very popular M&M’s chocolates. The candy contains petroleum-based food dyes, which has been found by the Center for Science in the Public Interest to cause hyperactivity in young children. Studies have also shown that children’s behavior became much worst after consuming these types of food dyes. This problem has gotten parents all over the world worried about what exactly are in the treats they are giving their children. There are a number of alternative ingredients out there that Mars can use instead of petroleum and it is time to bring that to light of the candy makers.

By signing this petition below, you will help urge Mars and other American candy makers to stop the use of unsafe petroleum-based food dyes in their candy and adopt healthier ingredients instead.

Dear Mars, Incorporated,

Please stop the use of petroleum-based artificial food dyes in your candy. You have millions of consumers all over the world that will have their health compromised because of the consumption of your products. Studies have shown that the ingredients in your candy have caused health issues, which include hyper activity in young children. The use of this ingredient is not necessary, because there are other natural and healthy ingredients that can be used to color your candy instead.

I am urging you to take a stand and remove all of these dangerous and toxic dyes from all of your products. Please do the responsible thing and find an alternative to petroleum based food dyes. Not only will it benefit your company, but it will also benefit children all over the world who enjoy your products.

  1. Lisbeth Alvarado Sanchez says:

It seems that Mars doesn’t care about the health of children. To them what matters is profit. This is totally inmoral and ihumane.

  2. Petroleum is in EVERYTHING we consume and yet billions of wasted dollars are spent on “finding a cure”. Everyone save your money and STOP giving it to research because the drug companies will NEVER allow a cure to be found for any disease.

  3. Cat Jefferson says:

I don’t want dyes in, or on, ANY of my food, be it candy, fruits and veggies or meats! People need to learn that a fake, bright, pretty color doesn’t mean it’s good!

  4. Avaricious profit at any cost is the reason for these unnatural food colouring dyes. These companies think we are idiots and do not question the health properties of what is in the sweets and other foods affected. All they care about is more and more profit the bigger the better but it is never enough so their greed knows no bounds. It is unscrupulous and unethical to be poisoning children slowly with these sweets that children everywhere love and should be eaten for celebratory occasions as a special treat and should not be tainted with dubious dyes that are not healthy. Until these big companies stop and get off the gravy train of GREED! There is nothing we can do except refuse to spend any money on their products. It seems all companies are only interested in the high life for a few and bigger and bigger profits and sitting on their hands refusing to do anything honorable. The drug companies are guilty of putting harmful dyes on there tablets and capsules. A specialist told me that apparently if a tablet is brightly coloured…That, the research the companies have done says patients think the tablet works better, but for me it is dangerous and Dr. always has a battle to find white tablet to do the job. Totally asinine, so we are all on a slippery slide to hell courtesy of the corporations from A to Z.
