Target: Jessica Black
Goal: Criticize Ms. Black’s defense of her son’s Ku Klux Klan costume and her own racist views.
Recently, a Virginia mother allowed her 7-year-old son to celebrate Halloween in a Ku Klux Klan costume. Allegedly, the costume is a ‘family tradition’ and has been worn by various males in her family ‘for many years.’
Jessica Black of Craigsville, Virginia garnered an astounding amount of media attention when her son, Jackson, was photographed in the costume and the picture later posted to a Facebook page. When the photo went viral, responses were less than savory. Black defended her decision to let her son wear the controversial costume by stating, “My brother has [worn it] when he was in Kindergarten and when he was 13.” She went on to say that she saw nothing wrong with the costume or the ideals of Ku Klux Klan, which she claims “still exists in her Virginia town.” What’s worse are her following assertions about race and sexuality, as she maintains: “It’s supposed to be white with white, black with black, man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for.”
Despite the uproar and disdain from various individuals, many of whom reside in her own home town, Black continues to rally for her decision to let Jackson don the offensive garb and the racist convictions of the Ku Klux Klan.
By signing this petition you’ll reprimand Jessica Black for her unscrupulous behavior and blatant prejudice.
Dear Jessica Black,
You used your own child as a vehicle to spread your reprehensible beliefs on race and sexuality in today’s world. And, for that, you should be ashamed of yourself. To influence someone as impressionable as a child, to fill them with hate and prejudice so early on in their lives, is negligent and absolutely horrendous.
The vicious crimes carried out by the Ku Klux Klan organization are unforgivable and abominable. By placing young Jackson in that costume you not only offended others who may have been directly affected by the wrath of KKK, but you show that you have not an ounce of benevolence in your soul. Simply put, where is your humanity?
History has dictated the heinous acts of violence performed by klans-members against innocent people, and your decision to defend Jackson’s costume dictates a narrow world view that isn’t only skewed and detrimental, but derogatory and unfounded. I truly hope that this letter shows you the error in your ways and that you realize just how thoughtlessly and ignorantly you behaved.
