Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Commend President Obama for creating a task force to prepare for the effects of climate change.
President Barack Obama has created a task force dubbed the Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, which is chaired by the White House and composed of 25 federal agencies. The executive order that spawned this council also created State, Local, and Tribal Leaders who advise the federal leaders on what needs to be prepared. This will aid communities in responding to local, statewide, or national disasters. The order comes during the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which ravaged the East Coast of the United States. Many politicians and environmentalists believe the President gave the order in response to the anniversary, and also as a statement that he doesn’t wish for another disaster of that magnitude to be inflicted upon the nation.
The agency will examine policies on both the local and national level, and determine if they need to be revised. They will also add or remove programs. They will ensure that communities will have adequate resources should a disaster strike. The agency will also offer grants and technical assistance to water conservation and disaster relief departments, promote natural storm barriers like dunes and wetlands, protect forests and woodlands, and create climate adaptation plans. Starting from the local level, all parties will discuss necessary plans with the federal officials so the agency can cover necessary and dire needs.
Sign this petition and commend the President for this executive order. Reversing the effects of climate change will not happen immediately, and it is critical that the United States has a plan should the worst happen to the nation.
Dear President Barack Obama,
I am writing this letter to thank you for the creation of the Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. I’m sure those who are affected by climate change can rest a little easier now that there is a task force responsible for taking care of them and providing assistance should disaster strike. I am also grateful that you are a leader who realizes the dangers and consequences of climate change, when there are other nations struggling with pollution levels and poisoning our oceans.
Please ensure that our nation turns into a green nation, where we are responsible about our environment and use renewable sources for our energy. I hope that even when you leave the presidency, you will strive to keep our planet clean and thriving.
