Target: Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg
Goal: Ensure kids get punished for destroying an ancient and rare rock formation
A group of boy scouts recently purposefully knocked over an ancient desert rock formation in Utah’s Goblin Valley. The boys made a video of themselves kicking over the formation and then celebrating and laughing, and uploaded it to the internet.
The boys claim they did it because the rock looked unsafe and they did not want it to fall on anybody. However, the rock formation had been in that location for 170 million years so there was no reason for them to actually believe that the formation was in any way a threat.
This action is extremely disappointing, especially from a group as noteworthy as the boy scouts. The boy scouts are supposed to be a group dedicated to nature and conservation and they did just the opposite by destroying a valuable and ancient piece of nature. The disrespectful actions of these boys cannot be ignored.
Please sign the petition below to ensure that all of those involved in this incident be punished for their actions in destroying an ancient natural rock formation.
Dear Eugene Swalberg,
The recent incident of the ancient rock formation being destroyed by a group of boyscouts is disappointing and unfortunate. It is astonishing that anybody would do such a thing, especially from a notable group such as the boy scouts who are supposed to support nature conservation.
With that being said, we urge you to ensure that these boys are punished in whatever way you feel is necessary. An ancient and valued object should not be destroyed without the wrongdoers being punished. Please make sure that justice for this wrongdoing is pursued.
