Target: Judge Einhorn, Director of the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic

Goal: Commend the Asylum Clinic at Pepperdine for helping refugees to obtain asylum status, and encourage other schools to follow the clinic’s good example.

The Pepperdine Asylum Clinic is a worthy program with the goal of helping refugees in the United States to obtain asylum status. The program is specifically geared towards helping refugees who otherwise would not be able to afford legal services. Gaining asylum status is essential for refugees because it allows them to remain in the United States and prevents them from being deported to a country where they might otherwise be killed. The Clinic literally saves lives. The purpose of this petition is to show support for the Clinic and thereby encourage other schools to implement similar programs.

The Pepperdine Clinic was inaugurated in 2007, and has successfully been helping refugees for the past five years.  The Clinic has provided support to refugees overcome by feelings of hopelessness, helping them to gain asylum status and create new lives for themselves. As other law schools decide to take on asylum clinics of their own, they can look to the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic as a source of inspiration. The Pepperdine Asylum Clinic puts a strong focus on the students as well as the clients. This allows the students to benefit by gaining experience, and the clients to have the opportunity to receive legal services.

Dear Judge Einhorn, Director of the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic:

The work of the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic has touched the lives of not only the refugees whom it has helped, but also the students whom it has instructed. By giving students the opportunity to work on asylum cases, the clinic gives them the chance to not only build legal experience, but also develop an appreciation for larger problems in the world. Although the clinic will be drawing to a close, the impact that it leaves behind will not.

The purpose of this petition is to show support for the accomplishments of the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic, and to acknowledge the impact that it has had on refugees and students alike. Additionally, this petition is also designed to encourage other law schools to look to the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic for inspiration as they design their own programs. By drawing on the experiences of the Pepperdine Asylum Clinic for guidance, they can bolster the momentum of your incredible program.
