Target: Andrew J. Littlefair, President and CEO of Clean Energy Fuels
Goal: Commend fuel company for offering renewable clean energy source as a viable alternative to gasoline and diesel
Clean Energy Fuels, a leader in the renewable fuel market, has come up with a renewable source of transportation fuel that is both cleaner for the environment and affordable for consumers. The renewable natural gas, called Redeem, is the first of its kind to ever be distributed commercially. Thousands of commercial vehicles are already using the gasoline alternative, which is ninety percent cleaner than diesel fuel. This is a milestone in our nation’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and should be lauded.
Redeem is made from methane gas emitted from decomposing organic waste, and is generally referred to as biomethane. The gas is taken from landfills and runoff from large dairies and sewage plants, which is why it is one hundred percent renewable. Clean Energy Fuels aims to sell fifteen million gallons of Redeem this year, which is more than twice the amount of similar fuels projected to to be produced for the year by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Another benefit of Clean Energy’s natural gas is that it costs less than diesel fuel. Because of this, large fleets such as Hertz have already begun shifting from diesel to Redeem. This has wonderful long term implications for our nation’s environmental concerns.
With plans to reach the rest of the country in the near future, Redeem is already being sold publicly in California, at thirty five of Clean Energy Fuels’ gas stations. This is a huge step toward making alternative transportation fuel options widely available for consumers. Commend Clean Energy Fuels for effectively implementing a clean and renewable natural gas.
Dear Mr. Littlefair,
Your company’s new renewable natural gas, Redeem is a wonderful alternative to gasoline and diesel fuel. Not only is it one hundred percent renewable, but it is ninety percent cleaner than diesel. And, because it is more affordable than diesel, you are giving trucking companies, who produce immense amounts of carbon emissions, a huge incentive to switch to a more sustainable fuel. This is a milestone in our nation’s efforts to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Never before has an option for natural gas been made widely available to the public. The distribution of Redeem brings hope to our nation for eventual environmental sustainability. We commend you for implementing a renewable energy source for transportation fuel.
