Target: New Jersey Superior Court
Goal: Applaud New Jersey for steps towards equality for gays
The New Jersey Superior Court recently ruled that same-sex couples be allowed to marry to obtain equality with opposite-sex couples. The case was Garden State Equality vs. Dow, and Garden State Equality achieved a victory which will go into effect October 21st, 2013.
The New Jersey Constitution states that same sex couples should have the same rights and benefits as married opposite-sex couples. The court ruling determined that civil unions, which are currently allowed for same sex couples in New Jersey, do not grant the same rights and benefits as marriage. Therefore, couples who originally met the requirements for civil unions will now be qualified for marriage.
This is a proud moment for New Jersey, as they pursue efforts for equality for same-sex couples. The New Jersey laws did not agree with the New Jersey Constitution, and the correction granted by this case allows the citizens of New Jersey to claim the rights of equality that they were supposed to have under law. Equality for gays is something that is necessary in this country for us to be a fair and equal nation, and any efforts towards this movement deserve high praise.

Dear New Jersey Superior Court,
Thank you for your recent decision to allow marriage for same-sex couples. The New Jersey Constitution states that same-sex couples should have the same rights and benefits as married opposite-sex couples, but civil unions which were offered to same-sex couples did not offer the same benefits as marriage. The ruling of Garden State Equality vs. Dow corrected this discrepancy and allowed same sex couples to finally obtain the rights to which they are entitled.
This ruling was a large step towards gay rights and equality. Thank you for your efforts to make the state of New Jersey fair and equal under law.
