Target: Daniel J. Malloy, Chairperson of the Gilberton Borough Council
Goal: Thank the Council for firing insurrectionist police chief.
The people of Gilberton, Pennsylvania can sleep easier now that a police chief who bullied opponents with a private militia will soon be out of office. Mark Kessler, famous for a series of YouTube videos where he shouted threats at “libtards” in the United States government and the United Nations and fired automatic rifles, found out recently the town’s Borough Council intended to fire him.
Kessler was disciplined in late July for using town property without permission while making his videos. While his thoughts about armed rebellion were concerning enough, Kessler’s private army was the true object of horror to critics. He is the head of a militia called the Constitution Security Force (CSF), linked in the past with the Oath Keepers and hard right anti-government organizations.
Fears about Kessler’s intentions seemed to have been realized at the July meeting to discuss discipline for Kessler about his videos. About 100 CSF militiamen flanked the Borough Council building. Activist Michael Morrill, who was confronted by Kessler’s men when trying to enter, said “I have been organizing for four decades. I have faced Klansmen in Kentucky, Ustase in Bosnia and police indiscriminately beating demonstrators in Italy. [Wednesday] night in Gilberton was more frightening than any of these situations.”
During his suspension, Kessler released another video where he shot at a clown-faced target called “Eric” after Borough Council Vice-President Eric Boxer. “Don’t even give him a chance. Just light his f—— ass right up. Kill him. F— him,” he explained to viewers.
Kessler still has a chance to appeal his firing, but the town has made up its mind to get rid of him. The Borough Council of Gilberton made a brave stand against an out-of-control public official who used his position to advocate violence and intimidated his opponents with a private army. By signing this petition, you will thank them for doing the right thing.
Dear Mr. Malloy,
I am writing to thank you regarding the Borough Council’s decision to fire Police Chief Mark Kessler. Kessler achieved national infamy by creating a series of YouTube videos where he shouted threats at “libtards” in the United States government and the United Nations and fired automatic rifles. While Kessler’s insurrectionist views were worthy of concern on their own, his militia ties were the real object of horror.
As you know, Kessler is the head of a militia group called the Constitution Security Force (CSF). At the July Council meeting that led to Kessler’s initial suspension, about 100 CSF militiamen confronted members of the public who wanted to enter. Activist Michael Morrill of Keystone Progress stated of his experience, “I have been organizing for four decades. I have faced Klansmen in Kentucky, Ustase in Bosnia and police indiscriminately beating demonstrators in Italy. [Wednesday] night in Gilberton was more frightening than any of these situations.”
In light of Kessler’s private army, your decision to fire him was a brave one. It also was the right one to make. No public official should use a militia to intimidate opponents. I thank and applaud you for standing up for the safety of the people of Gilberton.
