Target: Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan
Goal: Fire Detroit official who created intentional blackout
Recently, Detroit experienced a blistering day with temperatures in the 90s punctuated by a blackout. The citywide power outage shut down buildings and transportation throughout the city, even leaving people stuck in elevators with no way of getting out. The truly horrifying thing, however, was that the blackout was planned by unapologetic city officials.
Gary Brown, Chief Compliance Officer for the city, beamed with a smile as he told reporter Alexis Wiley of Fox 2 the city did it to give punish those who overused air conditioners during the day. He said “We did start calling our customers prior to taking them down and asking them to turn off air conditioners, but they weren’t responding as fast as we would like them to so we had to send them a strong message by turning the power off.”
When asked “What do you say to the people who were stuck in elevators in 90-degrees” by Wiley, Brown responded “I say we’re working very hard to get them out of the elevators. I’ve turned the power on the building we’re standing in front of (City County Building) to get people out of the elevator.”
Bill Nowling, spokesman to city Emergency Manner Kevyn Orr, said “City grid customers were asked to reduce power, but failed to, so we had to move to intentional outages.” Orr, noted blogger Randa Morris of addicting info, is unelected and only answerable to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.
What happened in Detroit was outright shameful. Orr and Brown, acting without any regard for the health and safety of city residents, intentionally caused a blackout during a heat wave. Moreover, they clearly had no shame whatsoever for their actions. By signing this petition, you will demand Governor Snyder remove Orr and Brown from their posts.
Dear Governor Snyder,
Recently, the city of Detroit experienced both a heat wave with temperatures reaching the 90s as well as a power outage. City residents were forced to flee buildings or found themselves stuck in elevators, and transportation ground to a halt. Horrifyingly enough, this was all planned by officials as a form of punishment.
Chief Compliance Officer Gary Brown openly smiled as he talked to reporter Alexis Wiley of Fox 2 about what happened. He said “We did start calling our customers prior to taking them down and asking them to turn off air conditioners, but they weren’t responding as fast as we would like them to so we had to send them a strong message by turning the power off.” Bill Nowling of Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr’s office gave similar statements.
This callous disregard for the health and safety of Detroit’s citizens is reinforced by the fact that Orr and Brown are unelected and unanswerable to the people. However, they are answerable to you. I ask that you remove them from office for their despicable actions.
