Urge Police to Press Charges Against Dog Groomer Who Killed Dog

Target: Missouri Governor Jay Nixon

Goal: Urge Missouri police to press animal cruelty charges against groomer who killed a dog

Bill and Barbara Calhoun took their Maltese pup, Darby, an eight-pound dog, to their local groomer for a trim. The owner was taken into another room, and while she wasn’t able to see what was happening, the groomer, Rebecca Barbara, claims that the tiny dog bit her viciously enough to fear for her life. She proceeded to throw the dog against a wall, causing fatal internal injuries. The dog subsequently died from its wounds.

The Calhouns are now enduring the pain and heartbreak of a family member being so brutally killed for no reason whatsoever. They cannot even sleep in the bed where Darby used to cuddle with them. They demanded to see the alleged bite wounds on Barbara, but the groomer refused to show them. The veterinary clinic claimed that the wounds existed, but they are now entangled in a lawsuit brought by the dog owners. The groomer responsible for Darby’s death has been fired.

The lack of legal punishment for animal cruelty and a reluctance to enforce existing laws make tragedies like this possible. When innocent animals are viewed as disposable, people with self-control issues are more comfortable harming and abusing them. An eight-pound puppy is not a threat to a grown adult’s life, especially not one who should have experience with animals. This groomer should have controlled her actions and her anger at the frightened little dog.

Please sign this petition to urge Missouri officials to charge this groomer with animal cruelty, and to strengthen the existing laws against animal abuse.

Dear Governor Jay Nixon,

Recently a Missouri puppy was brutally and violently killed during a grooming session by the groomer herself, Rebecca Barbara, after she claimed the eight-pound dog bit her and she feared for her life. This sort of blatant animal cruelty is completely unacceptable.

We must punish perpetrators of animal cruelty so that this kind of tragedy does not continue to happen, and people like Bill and Barbara Calhoun are not left missing a vital member because of senseless violence. Helpless, innocent animals cannot be seen as disposable objects in a civil society.

Please urge law enforcement to punish this woman to the full extent of the law, and work to strengthen the laws against animal abuse in Missouri.

  1. We had a puppy exactly like this one when I was a little boy, It really saddens me when animals are mistreated.

That wretch who killed the poor dog and broke the owner’s heart must not get away with this!@46*9p09-0=-34

  3. I’m sure this isn’t the first time she has abused a dog. I’m sure she is abusing her children. For her to react like that is a monster! I have 2 yorkies under 9 pounds. One bit me one time…it NEVER crossed my mind to pick him up and throw him against the wall. She is a sick twisted individual that must pay the price. My yorkies are my babies. That family lost a family member at the hands of bitch. Send her to jail….better yet, throw her against the wall and let her lose her life….it’s not as valuable as the dogs or is it? My guess is no, it’s not.

  4. Dirty bitch..she needs one good punch in the face
