Target: Sacramento Mayor, Kevin Johnson
Goal: Enact a ban on horse drawn carriage rides in Old Sacramento
Countless horses suffer every year in the horse drawn carriage business. Forced to work for hours on end despite dangerous road conditions and blistering heat, many horses suffer painful and sometimes fatal injuries. Many states have already outlawed this cruel exploitation of horses. Please ask Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson to do the same and end the torturous horse drawn carriage business in Old Sacramento and all of California.
The beautiful town of Old Sacramento continues to exploit horses in the horse drawn carriage business. Sacramento is known for having some extreme temperatures; the summers often boasting heat well above 100 degrees. Even in the blistering summer heat, the poor horses are forced to carry passengers around the city for hours on end without breaks. Many horses suffer injuries from the old streets made of jacked bricks. Some have even been hit by cars or injured by tourists. The heat can be so severe that many horses collapse from exhaustion or heat stroke, sometimes fatally.
In a progressive state like California, barbaric entertainment has no place. Horses do not deserve to suffer every day for the frivolous entertainment of sightseers. Sacramento has plenty to offer and animal abuse should need not be included. Please ask California Mayor Kevin Johnson to immediately end all horse drawn carriage business in Sacramento and all of California.
Dear Kevin Johnson,
I was shocked and disheartened to learn that in a progressive city such as Sacramento, animal abuse continues to be offered as a form of human entertainment. Thousands of horses suffer in the horse drawn carriage business every year in the Old Sacramento area of California. This form of torture has no place in our modern society. Please immediately end all horse drawn carriage business in Sacramento and all of California.
Sacramento is known for it’s beautiful sights and scenes as well as it’s extreme temperatures; summers can be well above 100 degrees. No matter the weather, horses in the horse drawn carriage business are worked for hours on end, forced to pull around a heavy carriage loaded with passengers. In the stifling heat, many horses suffer from exhaustion or heat stroke, some even collapsing to their deaths. Horses have also suffered heinous injuries caused by cars, visitors, or the jagged brick roads. The horses are also forced to wear blinders; a contraption that fits over the horses head and blocks the horses peripheral vision. These blinders do not allow the horses to see to the sides of themselves; causing countless injuries to the horses and pedestrians.
The horse drawn carriage business is dangerous to both humans and horses alike. In our progressive state, barbaric entertainment should not exist. Please enact a ban on horse drawn carriages in Sacramento and all of California immediately.
