Target: Martha Ryan, Founder and Executive Director of Homeless Prenatal Program
Goal: Applaud work to provide prenatal care for homeless and low-income families in San Francisco
Homeless Prenatal Program is a nonprofit organization providing prenatal care for homeless families and working to find them permanent housing, parenting support, proper healthcare, mental health wellness services, and employable skills. Please applaud the humanitarian work that the Homeless Prenatal Program is providing to San Francisco’s homeless families.
The Homeless Prenatal Program currently serves 3,500 homeless or low-income people – about 6% of San Francisco’s population. 90% of the babies born to the women who have sought the organization’s services are born with normal birth weights. 98.7% of the babies born come into this world drug-free. The Homeless Prenatal Program aims to not only deliver and raise healthy babies, but to break the cycle of childhood poverty. The organization works toward this goal by training some of its former clients to become community health workers in order to support themselves and their families. Many former clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program end up being hired as staff for the organization.
There have been recent talks of the program being replicated to serve homeless families in Los Angeles. Hopefully, this expansion is realized so that more low-income and homeless families can benefit from the Homeless Prenatal Program’s extraordinary services. Please show your support of this nonprofit and all the work it does to both treat and empower San Francisco’s homeless mothers.
Dear Founder and Executive Director of Homeless Prenatal Program Martha Ryan,
Thank you for your work to provide San Francisco’s homeless and low-income families with health and job services. The nonprofit organization’s twenty-year long dedication to provide prenatal health care to homeless women is an exemplary model that will hopefully be expanded to the city of Los Angeles and beyond. Please continue the essential humanitarian work that helps thousands of women give birth to healthy babies.
Your nonprofit organization provides 3,500 families not only with prenatal care, but with a multitude of services that work to break the cycle of poverty that these babies are born into, such as finding clients permanent housing, providing resources for parental support, proper healthcare, and mental health wellness. Homeless Prenatal Program also successfully runs the Community Technology Center, where clients can go to be trained with skills necessary for employment. Among the jobs clients can train for is the role of a community health worker. Many former clients end up working as staff members for the very organization that trained them, becoming able to help women in the same position as they themselves once were.
Thank you for your life-saving humanitarian work in the community. Please continue providing prenatal care to the impoverished women who need it most.
