Reprimand Company for Employment Discrimination

Target: Pegatron Group

Goal: Reprimand company for practicing hiring discrimination

A report conducted by the China Labor Watch uncovered discriminatory hiring practices at different Pegatron Group factories. In a flier informing applicants of their ability to apply it was written that China’s minorities, such as Tibetans, were not allowed to apply. Reprimand Pegatron Group for not conducting equal employment opportunity practices.

Pegatron’s most recent flier to alert citizens of employment opportunities also informed citizens that if they had “unique lifestyles” they would not be accepted. Those who had unique lifestyles were specified as Hui, Sala, Yi, Tibetan, and Uighur. This is blatant discrimination and is unacceptable from any employer. If a person needs to make a living in order to survive and take care of their family they should not be denied that due to their race.

Aside from not hiring these “unique” people, Pegatron also tries to shy away from hiring pregnant women and people older than 35. It is unreasonable to believe that you can set out to hire employees and limit and discriminate against those who can apply. The company also has been proven to put workers through hard conditions, working up to 70 hours a week because without overtime they would be paid roughly $268 a month for $1.50/hr. The company also pressures its employees to falsify their time cards when the violation has been made.

It would be unjust to let workers suffer through discrimination and harsh conditions with little to no benefits. By signing this petition you are reprimanding Pegatron Group for its indecent approaches to employment.

Dear Pegatron Group,

As news has spread that your company practices discrimination in its employment process, I believe an apology to the public must be made and the procedures Pegatron follows must be amended.

Pegatron Group was exposed by China Labor Watch for mentioning in a recruitment poster that characters of certain lifestyles would be turned away from employment. It is unreasonable to discriminate against ethnic groups who, just as anyone else, must make livings. Pregnant women and citizens older than 35 were also uncovered to be on the list of people that Pegatron does not hire despite their ability to complete work. Tibetans, pregnant women, 32 year olds, and so forth all deserve the chance and the right to be employed if suitable for the job should your company’s working conditions improve.

China Labor Watch also pointed out that employees were working up to 70 hours a week and being intimidated into doctoring their time cards. With 49 hours being the legal limit to work per week the legal formalities in both of your decisions are visible. It was stated that your employees receive only $1.50 an hour and therefore must rely on overtime to maintain the ability to make any income.

I am of strong belief that Pegatron needs to edit its recruitment fliers and better its working conditions for the sake of its employees. As a manufacturer for Apple you have an obligation and set standards to meet as an employer. Act quickly to begin bettering your company.
