Commend Activists for Fighting Corporate Involvement in Imprisonment and Tortures

Target: Du Daobin and fellow activists

Goal: Commend Du and his fellow activists for filing a lawsuit against Cisco Systems, Inc. for knowingly selling technology used to assist human rights abuses.

Cisco Systems Inc., the world’s largest producer of internet networking equipment, has been providing the Chinese Communist Party ammunition to identify, monitor, and torture Chinese citizens.  Du Daobin, a Chinese political activist, filed a lawsuit against Cisco and its top executives, suing them for giving the Chinese government the necessary products and technology to incur human rights violations with full knowledge of its use.  The lawsuit raises a critical issue in our society by asking whether or not domestic corporations should be held accountable for the informed use of their products by other governments.  When imprisonment and torture of citizens is the result, this case will prove that they should be.

Not only has Cisco facilitated the persecution of political activists by selling its equipment knowing what it would be used for, they have also used it as a selling point in their marketing.  In a presentation of Golden Shield technologies, colloquially referred to as the Great Firewall of China, Cisco confirmed their networking devices (which help strengthen the firewall,) are useful in identifying followers of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that was once supported by Chinese officials but is now considered a threat to the Chinese Communist party simply due to its size.  Furthermore, Du and his fellow activists have found new evidence suggesting that Cisco customized their products for this purpose.  Members of Falun Gong have allegedly been tortured and killed by Chinese authorities in the past.

By bringing Cisco to trial on this matter, Du Daobin and his fellow activists are demanding justice for the human rights violations imposed by the Chinese Communist Party and all of its accessories.  They are holding Cisco responsible for their awareness of these violations and their willingness to contribute to them.  No corporation should be allowed to participate in the corrupt actions of a government whose ideals are so misaligned with ours. Show your support for their lawsuit against corruption by commending them for their bravery.

Dear Mr. Du Daobin,

You and your fellow activists have done something commendable by standing up to a large corporation with blood on their hands.  Cisco Systems Inc. has lent its hand to the identification, detainment, and torture of countless citizens fighting for basic human rights.  Your lawsuit against Cisco will hold them accountable for their lack of concern regarding the Chinese Communist Party’s egregious crimes against humanity.

This case also raises an important issue in our global community, that of accountability in corporate society.  By suing Cisco, you could help set a new standard of conduct in the international corporate world.  I support your cause and your lawsuit because no corporation should be able to participate in the abuse of human rights without consequence.
