Target: Iowa Republican representative Steve King

Goal: Demand representative Steve King to resign for bigoted and misinformed comments against immigrants.

Iowa Republican representative Steve King had made an appearance at a “Stop Amnesty” rally in Richmond, Virginia. During the event, he made a speech filled with ignorance and hate. He quoted, “If you bring people from a violent civilization into a less-violent civilization, you’re going to have more violence right? It’s like pouring hot water into cold water, does it raise the temperature or not?” He was referring to the people of South America. He even went further by saying that the civilizations located there get more violent as you travel south. Indeed, Mr. King has been a staunch opponent against any form of amnesty, but his fallacious and malicious arguments are based off fabricated evidence that he claims to be reality.

This is not the first time Mr King has made these kind of insensitive, bigoted remarks. In a previous statement made against the Dream Act, he described the majority of undocumented young immigrant children as “drug mules with calves the size of cantaloupes because they were smuggling 75 pounds of marijuana across the border”. He asserted that for every valedictorian there are another 100 “drug mules”. He essentially said that the majority of undocumented immigrants do not offer any economic value to American society. In another town hall meeting, he compared immigrants to different breeds of dogs.

Despite condemnations from his constituents, he refuses to apologize  and continues to double down on his comments by saying that he is “objectively” correct. It is mind boggling that politicians continue to get free passes for ignorant and hateful comments. Disagreements with immigration policy should not degenerate into uninformed racial tirades. Sign this petition to demand Steve King to resign from office. Mr King’s toxic behavior should not be tolerated any longer.

Dear Mr King,

Your misinformed comments are an embarrassment to the Republican party and to the position of high political office. You continue to isolate the Latino community and immigrants in general. Let me remind you that immigrants are the core of America. They bring with them not drugs, but productivity, innovation, and an exciting fusion of cultural experiences. Multiculturalism has been the bread and butter of the United States since its conception. Insensitive remarks will only divide our diverse society and isolate voters from your party.

It is astonishing that a grown and educated man of your stature could possibly harbor these beliefs. However it is clear that you are unfit for high political office and should resign for your unintelligent and unsubstantiated comments.
