Make Bath and Body Works Stop Using Harmful Chemical

Target: Bath and Body Works

Goal: Remove dangerous chemical from Bath and Body Works products

Bath and Body Works has a wide variety of popular beauty and hygiene products which are sold across the globe. Yet it still uses a dangerous chemical in many of its products, despite the existence of a safe alternative. Tell Bath and Body Works to use a safe replacement in its products.

Bath and Body Works offers items ranging from lotion, make-up, perfume, and candles. Widely known for its large amount of variety in scents and products, it has expanded rapidly in the past decade to become a worldwide phenomenon. Despite its success, a large number of its products may not be safe to use.

Butylated hydroxytoluene, or BHT, is a preservative with many known negative health effects. These include infertility, cancer, and kidney and liver problems among many other side effects. These dangers have proven strong enough to have the chemical banned by several other countries, though not yet in the United States.

Considering that there are alternate preservatives which could easily replace BHT, the fact that Bath and Body Works continues to use the chemical in so many of its products is shocking. Consumer health should be a top concern for the company, especially considering that many people buy multiple products of different variety from it. This means the average customer will likely use more than one item from the company each day, meaning they will be exposed to a high amount of the chemical on a daily basis.

By signing the petition below, you will help encourage Bath and Body Works to use a safe alternative to the chemical BHT in its products. As a leading distributor of personal products, it has a responsibility to create a product which is not only good quality but safe as well.

Dear Bath and Body Works,

Despite being a large retailer of beauty and health products, your company still uses the chemical BHT in a large amount of its products. This is despite the fact that there are multiple safe alternatives readily available. These alternatives must be utilized for the sake of your customer’s health.

Butylated hydroxytoluene, or BHT, is a chemical preservative known for its negative affects to health. Included among the many side effects are cancer, infertility, and kidney and liver problems. The danger inherent in its use is serious enough to warrant it being banned in multiple countries.

Consumer health should be a top priority for your company, particularly considering the wide variety of products available. Customers are likely to use multiple items a day from your stores, thus making them exposed to an even larger amount of the chemical.

Please take action to switch to a safe alternative to the chemical BHT. A leading company in the field of personal products has a responsibility to create a product that retains its quality while still managing to be safe.
