Impose Appropriate Charges on Men Who Held Teen as Sex Slave

Target: U.S. Attorney for Northern District of California Melinda Haag

Goal: Charge Balletto and Pearmain with kidnapping and raping of a fifteen-year-old girl instead of just an offense for possession of marijuana

Recently, a court hearing was held concerning Ryan Balletto and Patrick Pearmain, two men running a marijuana farm in California who had kidnapped and raped a fifteen-year-old girl, then forced her to work on the farm as a slave.  The girl, who was forced to harvest and prepare the marijuana for sale, was often locked in a 4×2-foot box for days during her captivity.

However, charges for rape and imprisonment for these two men were dismissed so that the case would be resolved more quickly.  Without being charged for these crimes, the two would suffer a much smaller punishment and would not be registered in the national database of sex offenders, increasing the chance that they would prey on more children in the future.

Merely charging the men with possessing marijuana is too light of a punishment for the terrible crime and trauma that they have inflicted upon a minor.  In addition, the punishment is too subtle to prevent them from committing their crimes again, putting children in the community at risk.

By signing this petition you will help urge the District Attorney Melinda Haag to charge Balletto and Pearmain with rape and kidnapping to give them the punishment that they deserve and to bring justice for the girl who became their unfortunate victim.

Dear Ms. Haag,

Recently I heard that Ryan Balletto and Patrick Pearmain, two men running a marijuana farm who kidnapped, raped, and enslaved a fifteen-year-old girl would be only charged for possessing marijuana, and not for the other crimes committed to their young victim.

It is not acceptable to ignore the terrible deeds that these men have done.  Imagine how the girl and her family feels knowing that the men who assaulted her and possibly ruined her life had not been punished for what they did to her, but only for possessing marijuana.

In addition, not charging Balletto and Pearmain with rape and kidnapping would mean that the two would fail to be accounted for on the national database of sex offenders, making it more possible for them to commit the same crimes in the future.

Please charge Balletto and Pearmain for the crimes that they committed so that they will receive the proper retributions and so that justice will be brought to the unfortunate victim of their crimes.

Failing to charge these fellows with rape and abduction, for the sake of convenience, a fast resolution to the case, is like charging Hitler’s troops only for crossing the polish border, in 1939, without a passport!
