Target: MasterCard Corporate Public Relations
Goal: Applaud MasterCard for initiating dining campaign to support cancer treatment and research
MasterCard extended its hand in fellowship with breakthrough cancer research by sponsoring the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) program. The financial backing provided by MasterCard is received by a leading effort in cancer research and treatment. Donation programs offered by MasterCard help fuel cancer treatment solutions that are innovative and highly successful.
Through September 28, 2013, MasterCard is promoting its “Dig In and Do Good” program, an effort to raise money and awareness to end cancer. For every $10 of dining out that is charged to a MasterCard the company will donate one cent, up to $4,000,000, to SU2C. In 2013 alone, MasterCard has raised nearly $860,000 for the fund–a lot of pennies being thrown into the wising well of this noble cause. With an online direct donation link and a variety of invitational- style options to include friends and family, this giant of a company is doing its part to see that fundamental cancer research is being forwarded.
The Stand Up To Cancer program was started in 2008 by three entertainment industry moguls, Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, and Laura Ziskin. In the five years since its inception SU2C has gained a gallery of celebrity and corporate sponsorships and climbed new heights in funding leading clinical trials. Looking to the other side of thought, SU2C brought together national and international scientists with diverse backgrounds in a dream of deriving cures through multifariousness and a belief in creative collaboration.
The five original “Dream Teams” have multiplied into twelve orbs of expertise that handle collaborative and research efforts. These teams study an array of cancers, including pancreatic, breast, ovarian, lung, melanoma, and Hodgkin’s disease. The Breast Cancer Dream team took flight with a Phase II clinical trial that led to tripled survival rates for patients and a stop in the progression of the disease. The Pancreatic Dream Team also discovered a wonderland of success when results of their work led to a 59 percent increase in one year survivors and a doubled rate in two-year survivors. The introduction of epigenetic therapy and immunotherapy research and continued grant funding are leading to many a bucketful of wishes being hauled up by cancer patients who had already accepted a morbid fate.
As of 2013, the National Cancer Institute estimates that 580,350 people will die from cancer and another 1.7 million will be diagnosed. Help advance the progress being made by Stand Up To Cancer by showing your support of MasterCard and encouraging more individual and corporate sponsorship of this effort.
Dear Marcy Cohen,
Your involvement with Stand Up To Cancer is applauded. Thank you for joining the efforts to incorporate progress and innovation into cancer research. The leadership of your company in the expansion of sponsorship to the SU2C program is hailed.
The progress being made in the fields of breast and pancreatic cancer, P13K, circulating tumor cells, and epigenetic cells are triumphant strides in cancer treatment.
This petition is presented in the hope that more sponsorship will be gained for Stand Up To Cancer and companies such as you will continue to step forward as suitors for this worthy cause.
