Target: Soria, Spain Officials
Goal: End the Toro Jubilo event that continues to torture bulls every year
Every year in the town of Medinaceli, a province of Soria, Spain, a gruesome festival continues to take place on the grounds of cultural tradition. Locals participate in a festival called Toro Jubilo in which a bull is tortured for hours with fire and then killed, all for entertainment. Please tell Spain that this barbaric ritual must end: culture is no excuse for cruelty.
During the Toro Jubilo event occurring in Medinaceli Spain each year, a bull is ritualistically tortured in front of thousands of spectators, all for entertainment. Townspeople capture a bull and then drag him by his horns into the town square, which is sanctioned off into a makeshift arena for this event. Participants rope the bull to a post and proceed to place a burning headdress on his horns made of sulphur, turpentine, and tar, and then release him to run furiously in agony as burning hot liquid falls onto his body, searing through his flesh. While the bull tries desperately to escape the fiery death that awaits him, gawkers are allowed to torment and torture the innocent creature. After several hours, if the bull survives the fiery doom, he is then viciously killed.
The Toro Jubilo was outlawed in the 1960s and 1970s but was recently reinstated on the grounds of being a cultural exception. Culture is no excuse for cruelty. Please tell Soria officials that this bloody fire pit of death is no entertainment; bulls do not deserve this ghastly fate. Please enact a final ban on this gruesome practice once and for all.
Dear Soria officials,
I was horrified to learn that the Toro Jubilo event, which allows the gruesome torture and murder of bulls, is still allowed to continue on the basis of being a cultural tradition. Culture is no excuse for cruelty. Please immediately and indefinitely ban this barbaric ritual for good.
During the Toro Jubilo event, a helpless bull is tortured in the name of culture and public entertainment. A bull is wrangled by participants and dragged to the town square where a makeshift arena has been made to enclose the innocent animal. The poor bull is tied to a post and a headdress made of burning turpentine, sulphur, and tar is placed on his horns. He is then released to run around the arena in agony as flames and hot tar fall onto his face and body, all the while being teased and tormented by participants. After several hours of this immense suffering, if the bull is still alive when the flame burns out, he is then gruesomely killed.
This so called cultural ritual is disgusting and shameful. Abusing animals in the name of culture is unacceptable. Please immediately ban this barbaric ritual once and for all.
