Respect Residents’ Protests – Stop Fracking of English Village

Target: Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of The UK’s Environment Agency

Goal: Do Not Allow Hydraulic Fracturing of Balcombe by Cuadrilla Resources Ltd.

Despite multiple protests and concerns presented by residents of Balcombe, a village and civil parish of England, the UK’s Environment Agency has given Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. the green light to begin drilling for oil.  Matters have since escalated, and several residents of the Balcombe area have been arrested as a result of protests.  Instead of respecting the wishes of Balcombe residents, the chief executive of Cuadrilla, backed by the Environment Agency, has vowed to continue exploring for oil in the region.

A report commissioned by the Balcombe Parish Council clearly lists the key risks of fracking in the region.  Included in the report are the risks of contamination to the environment as well as noise and light pollution of residential areas.  Residents of Balcombe have gathered in protest to express their concerns over the danger that fracturing poses to the quality of their air and water.  They also have expressed their concern in regards to the disturbances that the oiling project will pose to their community and are frightened by the fact that all the natural beauty of the area will be stripped away.

It is clear that no one is respecting the wishes of the residents of Balcombe and they are being bullied by the oil and gas industry without any support from their government.  We are all well aware of the dangers of fracking.  The financial rewards that the industry can offer don’t matter if we no longer have a clean and safe Earth to live on.  Demand that the voices of the residents of Balcombe be heard and that their wishes be respected.

Dear Lord Chris Smith,

The utter disregard you have shown to the people of Balcombe is truly appalling.  Granting Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. a permit to begin drilling in the area when the residents clearly stated that they did not wish for this project to be approved shows that you do not have the interest of the people at heart.

Stop the bullying and listen to what your constituents have asked of you.  You are after all the entity that represents them and exists solely to ensure the safeguarding of the environment.  Do your job and discontinue this oiling project which you have selfishly approved.
