Demand GMO Labeling Requirements

Target: Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey

Goal: Require labeling of genetically modified organisms in New Jersey

New Jersey is one of the 37 states currently organizing mandatory labeling initiatives for genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Urge the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, to pass GMO labeling laws as soon as possible, because a nationwide support for such legislation is crucial to advance the fight against GMOs. Currently only Maine and Connecticut have passed laws that require GMO labeling on food and produce items and consumers in each state should make an effort to let their legislators know how important it is to them to get similar laws passed in other states.

GMO labeling is a crucial effort to protect consumers and their families from possible adverse health effects that genetically modified food may have on them. GMOs are not thoroughly tested and therefore there is no vast knowledge about all the possible dangers on human health these foods might have. Despite this, studies show a link between GMO foods and abnormalities on animals fed these products. For example, pigs, which have a similar digestive system to that of humans, have showed signs of severe inflammation of stomach and intestines, and abnormal uterus growth. Inflammation has also been known to cause different types of cancer in both animals and humans. GMO foods may also affect the development of babies during gestation.

Let New Jersey legislators know that consumers care about their health and would rather be given the option to choose between GMO and non-GMO foods when provided appropriate labels. Sign this petition to urge the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, to require GMO labeling in the state of New Jersey and help the cause fight against genetically modified food. One by one, requesting state legislators to pass GMO label laws will help the cause gain nationwide support. Consumers have the right to make informed decision regarding their food.

Dear Chris Christie,

GMO labeling laws are a slowly, but steady moving cause that allows consumers to make informed decisions when buying food to ensure the best health for their families. So far only Maine and Connecticut have passed laws that require genetically modified organisms to be labeled on food items sold in those states.

I urge you to help New Jersey residents make informed decisions and demand GMO labeling in the state of New Jersey. GMOs have no place in our foods, and they are barely tested for adverse effects on human health. In addition, current research on animals shows that GMO foods causes abnormal growth and inflammation, which leads to cancer. Help consumers protect themselves and their families from GMOs.
