Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States
Goal: Do not allow Arctic oil drilling
Recently the United States Department of the Interior decided it would begin to look for public aid to locate areas in the Arctic that are sure to provide gas and oil. It made this decision despite knowledge that Arctic drilling would cause dangerous climate change and negatively impact natives and marine life. Tell President Obama to prevent Arctic lease sales to prove his dedication to his climate change plan.
The Arctic is untarnished, beautiful land that needs to remain protected from oil drilling. If drilling is conducted in the Arctic, global warming could speed up and the climate could change dangerously in a short amount of time. Previous attempts were made to drill in the Arctic by Shell, which confirmed the instability of drilling. The company declared it would never be safe to drill in the Arctic. The environment is unstable and if an oil spill occurred it could kill fish and endanger polar bears. If this action is taken it would also negatively affect the native population living there.
Barack Obama addressed climate change in a very inspirational and compelling speech and right now is the time for him to follow through with his promises. He needs to take a handle on factors of climate change, like oil drilling, and control their destinations. If companies are allowed to drill in the Arctic, there will be detrimental ecological effects. There are other very sufficient energy sources such as wind turbines or solar energy.
By signing this petition you are urging President Obama to follow through with his approach to climate change and prevent Arctic lease sales before they begin. It could be any moment now.
Dear President Obama,
It has recently been made clear that the Department of the Interior will begin accepting public aid to find places in the Arctic that will provide oil and gas. If drilling in the Arctic occurs it will cause dangerous climate change and would negatively affect natives in the region. I am urging you to prevent Arctic lease sales before they begin.
Shell has already tried and been proven unsuccessful in its attempts. The company confirmed it would never be safe to drill in the Arctic. If any other companies drill in such an unstable environment there could be dangerous consequences such as oil spills.
Weather in the Arctic is too hostile to drill in. If an oil spill occurs it could put endangered species such as polar bears at risk and kill marine life. There is still clean up from the BP oil spill of 2010, we don’t need the risk. You recently made a very inspirational and endearing speech addressing climate change, please don’t allow something that would only damage the climate.
I am asking you to consider the dangerous effect oil drilling in the Arctic would have on the ecosystem. Prevent Arctic lease sells.
