Target: Sándor Fazekas, Hungary’s Minister of Rural Development
Goal: Support Hungary’s efforts to protect consumers from genetically modified foods.
Agriculture officials in Hungary recently torched 1,000 acres of corn crops after discovering they were grown from genetically modified (GM) seeds. GM seeds are banned in Hungary due to the negative health impact they have on consumers. Please sign this petition and support Hungary’s ban and enforcement against genetically modified seeds and food.
A number of countries in the European Union have imposed national bans against GM seeds, and the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) they produce. The ban is in response to strong public opposition against the negative health effects associated with GMOs. According to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food, including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. The AAEM recommends that physicians advise patients to avoid all GM foods.
Hungary recently took very bold action to uphold its ban on GM seeds and food by burning 1,000 acres of corn crops after finding out they were grown from GM seeds. Seed traders are required to ensure their seeds have not been genetically modified; however, the country is conducting checks to investigate crops and eliminate GMOs. During the investigation, officials found Pioneer Monsanto products among the seeds planted.
Please sign this petition supporting and applauding Hungary’s bold enforcement against genetically modified seeds and foods.
Dear Minister Fazekas,
I am writing to applaud the recent decision to burn any and all crops that were grown using genetically modified (GM) seeds. The dangerous health risks associated with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are varied and it is refreshing to see a country protect its consumers. Thank you for protecting your country and enforcing your laws with the general public as your focus.
Hungary is joining a growing number of countries in the European Union that have decided to ban GM seeds and their associated food products. In order to enforce the ban, investigations are being conducted where the goods are being grown. If a crop is found to be growing a GMO, it is set aflame, thereby ensuring that it is not distributed to consumers.
Not only will this bold action let farmers and distributors know that the ban is serious, but it sends a message to the people of Hungary that their voices have been heard and their health is being protected. The ban was enacted in response to the growing public objection to genetically engineered food products and the genetic engineering company, Monsanto.
Thank you for protecting consumers against the toxic and dangerous side effects of genetically modified food.
