Target: Queen Elizabeth II
Goal: Applaud Queen Elizabeth II for supporting same-sex marriage
Parliament recently passed a bill for Great Britain to legalize gay marriage. It was first passed by the House of Commons, then passed by the House of Lords by a large majority, then sent back to the House of Commons to finalize the bill. The queen was then asked to say if she approves of the bill or not. The queen showed her support of gay marriage by giving her royal stamp of approval. The House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, announced that the queen gave her approval of equal marriage.
The queen’s approval was only formal; the bill had already been passed and will become law very soon. This is one of the most progressive pieces of legislation that the queen has given the royal stamp of approval to. The queen is highly respected and has a lot of influence. Knowing that she approves of same-sex marriage in her country will influence leaders of other countries to do what is right.
The bill legalizes same-sex marriages in both England and Wales. It allows for both civil and religious ceremonies. Now same-sex couples who get married will receive the same benefits that two married straight people always have received. Civil unions were previously the only type of union that was allowed for gay couples, and that does not have the same rights as a marriage union. Couples that are in a civil union will be allowed to convert that civil union into marriage now. Applaud Queen Elizabeth for supporting equal marriage by signing the petition below.
Dear Queen Elizabeth II,
The issue of same-sex marriage is not even a real issue. It is about two people who love each other and want to have that love recognized by their country. Straight couples have always had this privilege, and it is about time that gay couples have the same privilege. You have given gay couples the same privilege with your stamp of approval of the same-sex marriage bill. Now gay couples can get married in Great Britain and enjoy the same benefits of marriage as straight people always have.
Other countries are further behind you when it comes to human rights. This new law will be an example for other countries to follow. It will positively impact your country now that all people regardless of who they love can get married.
This is one of the most progressive pieces of legislation during your reign as queen of England. The fact that you have given your stamp of approval shows that you support positive change. Gay people in your country will now enjoy the same rights as straight people. Thank you for supporting equality.
