Demand GMO-Free Greek Yogurt

Goal: Stop labeling Chobani yogurt as “real” and “natural” until the company switches to GMO-free feed for its cows

Chobani is the most popular brand of Greek yogurt in the U.S. and it markets itself as “real” and “natural.” However, it has been recently discovered that Chobani uses milk coming from cows fed with crops containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). This contradicts its “natural” label as it is widely known that GMO presence in our food may adversely affect the health of consumers. The company closely monitors customer feedback on its Facebook page and has been known to be extremely sensitive to customer feedback about GMOs. It is time to demand that Chobani stop using milk laced with GMOs to produce Greek yogurt.

Chobani was established in 2005 based on the belief that people have great taste that needed to be met with great options. Chobani’s team prides itself in manufacturing high-quality, great tasting yogurt made with only natural ingredients available to the masses. However, a campaign dedicated to provide consumers with information on GMOs, GMO Inside, has recently reported that the company is relying on milk from cows eating a diet full of genetically modified organisms. In light of this, Chobani should stop marketing its products as “real” and “natural” until the company switches to verified non-GMO milk sources.

Demand for non-GMO products is growing every day with consumers becoming increasingly concerned about their health and quality of food. There’s a growing movement dedicated to demand companies use non-GMO ingredients or label them when they are present. Cows living on industrial farms eat GMO feed two to three times a day, every day. It has been reported in the Wall Street Journal that “this silage may consist of GMO corn, soy, alfalfa, cotton seed, and/or sugar beets, plus synthetic vitamins that are often times also derived from GMO crops. In fact, 98 percent of genetically modified soy and 49 percent of genetically modified corn goes to feeding livestock and poultry.”

Sign the petition to urge the CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya, to stop labeling its products as “real” and “natural” until Chobani switches to non-GMO milk sources. It is irresponsible for the company to rely on the consumers’ trust in its brand and labeling, and it should live up to its marketing claims.


Dear Hamdi Ulukaya,

Chobani labels its popular Greek yogurt as “real” and “natural” and its large customer base relies on the quality of your product. However, Chobani uses milk that most likely comes from cows fed with GMO crops. GMO produce is not natural and it has been widely believed to have adverse effects on consumers’ health.

Cows living on industrial farms are fed almost entirely GMO crops like corn, soy, alfalfa, cotton seed, and/or sugar beets.  In fact, 98 percent of GM soy and 49 percent of GM corn goes to feeding livestock and poultry. I urge you to monitor the milk source for your yogurt and use milk coming from cows fed only natural feed. Please shift to non-GMO feed for your cows and ensure proper labeling of your product.
