Allow 11-Year-Old Rape Victim to Have Abortion

Target: Chile President Sebastian Pinera

Goal: Allow 11-year-old rape victim to have an abortion to prevent risk to her life

Recently, an 11-year-old girl in Chile was prevented from having an abortion that may save her life. The girl is a victim of rape, and the pregnancy is threatening her health and the health of the fetus. However, due to Chile’s ban on abortion for any reason, this girl’s life will stay at risk. She will be forced to continue the pregnancy despite her young age and her health. The ban on abortion should not apply to a young victim in these extreme circumstances.

The girl had been raped repeatedly over two years by her mother’s partner. She was 14 weeks pregnant when she was brought to the attention of local police. Doctors say that the 11-year-old’s life and the life of the fetus are at high risk. The girl has been a victim for years, and now her life is at risk as a result of her rape. A girl this young should not have to face the possibility of losing her life when she is already a victim. However, Chile’s anti-abortion laws have prevented the girl from having an abortion that may save her life. The extremely conservative laws have created an impossible situation for this young victim.

Chile has had a complete ban on abortion since 1973. The current administration has shown no signs of loosening the ban, and has rejected three different bills that would have amended abortion laws. This young girl’s case has sparked a national debate to allow abortions in some cases. Despite this debate, the girl still is unable to have a life-saving abortion. Very few people would argue that a young rape victim should be forced to continue a pregnancy that poses a serious risk to her life. However, with Chile’s current laws, this is exactly what will happen to her. Demand that this girl be allowed to have an abortion and prevent any further risk to her life.

Dear President Pinera,

Recently, an 11-year-old girl in Chile was prevented from having a potentially life-saving abortion. The young girl is a victim of two years of rape, and was 14 weeks pregnant when the authorities learned about her. According to doctors, both the girl’s life and the life of the fetus are at high risk. She needs an abortion to prevent any further risk to her life. However, due to Chile’s conservative anti-abortion laws, she could not have the potentially life-saving procedure.

I ask you to allow this girl to have an abortion. There are very few people who would agree that a rape victim this young should be forced to continue a possibly fatal pregnancy. However, current laws have created this exact situation. Laws must be changed so that the life of this girl and possibly others can be saved. Amend the laws and save this young girl’s life.

  1. J Davidson says:

No 11 year old is ready to become a parent. What kind of absurdity is this?

  2. A terrible case. This poor little girl has not only suffered abuse, but also indifference and even condemnation from her own mother. This monster mum said her couple had not raped her daughter, for it was “consented” by the girl. Heinous.
Here in Argentina we suffer the same kind of stupidity. Politicians and a big part of population claim to defend life … but only unborn life. Women and girls are forced to continue unwanted pregnancies, unless they could afford a private abortion. So, poor women have lots of children, even from rapes, while middle or upper class women can decide what to do.

Forcing this girl to have this child is raping her again. Have some compassion. She’s just a baby herself.

  4. Sheila D GGma Sheila says:

Too bed the government of Chile has shown it has no compassion for victims. The World watches in horror at what Chile is forcing this CHILD to go through after enduring abuse for years already. The government probably gave a medal to the rapist! Remind me never to buy any products from Chile.

  5. Leslie Stanick says:

A child who has been raped is prevented from having an abortion, but if she dies giving birth, it’s ok? What kind of government is this? Medical professionals, not conservative Catholic politicians, should be taking care of this young girl’s physical, emotional and mental health. This is a shocking abuse in the 21st century.
