Stop County Fair From Using Abused Animals

Target: Sandy Woods, CEO of Nevada County Fairgrounds

Goal: Stop supporting elephant abuse

The Nevada County Fair in California has signed a contract with a company that provides elephants for entertainment purposes – Have Trunk Will Travel. This privately owned establishment has been under scrutiny recently for severe animal abuse that was discovered during an undercover investigation. The findings showed that elephants were repeatedly abused, jabbed with bull hooks and shocked with electric stun guns during routine handling and training. Animals used for entertainment are often subject to abuse and this practice should not be supported by large public events.

The Nevada County Fair is being held in The Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, California. It attracts large audiences annually that include families with children and is economically beneficial to local communities. One of the fair’s features is an animal barn featuring more than 1,000 animals. However, this year the Nevada County Fair has also contracted with Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT). This company was recently searched by Animal Defenders International (ADI), who reported extensive animal abuse at the company’s facilities. Unfortunately, their business could be supported by thousands of people attending the Nevada County Fair, unsuspecting of the cruel practices employed by HTWT.

ADI released a video on their website of the shocking cruelty enacted towards the elephants of HTWT. The footage was made over an 8-week undercover investigation of HTWT, and it reveals the elephants being shocked with stun guns, beaten with bull hooks, hit over the head and dragged by the trunk. These elephants are also chained for up to 12 hours each day.

Have Trunk Will Travel has received international condemnation from vets, elephant experts, zoo industry insiders and the public. The Nevada County Fair advertises itself as providing “benefits beyond the educational, cultural and agricultural tradition.” However, their partnership with HTWT goes against any cultural and moral statues. Sign this petition to urge the CEO of Nevada County Fairgrounds to stop their partnership with this cruel company.

Dear Sandy Woods,

The Nevada County Fair has just signed a contract with Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT) that will provide the fair with trained elephants for entertainment. Recently the Animal Defenders International group conducted an undercover investigation that revealed that the company has been repeatedly abusing its elephants causing them physical harm and distress.

I urge you not to continue your partnership with Have Trunk Will travel and stop them from transporting elephants to your county fair. HTWT should not profit from animal abuse and the Nevada County Fair should not support this cruel practice.

Elephants should NEVER be used and confined for entertainment and profit. Please do not support such establishments, instead teach compassion and display only small animals from safe, reliable farms.
