Target: Kelly Miller Circus
Goal: Suspend Kelly Miller Circus for mistreating animals
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently filed an animal abuse complaint against Kelly Miller Circus. Kelly Miller Circus has been entertaining millions of people since it started in 1938. The circus prides itself on being America’s second largest big top show, offering audiences the chance to witness some of the biggest circus stars from many nations as well as lay eyes on an exotic display of animals.
The circus “loves” their animals and are very “proud of them.” They are considered “friends and fellow performers.” But recent allegations of animal abuse witnessed by many people contradict the circus’s claims that these animals are very important members of their team. PETA’s official complaint cited an eyewitness’s report of seeing a handler repeatedly whip zebras during a performance. One of the zebras almost fell out of the ring. Another eyewitness also claimed seeing another handler forcefully striking a small dog on the face. Also, when the camels and zebras were not performing, they were “tied so tightly and close to a trailer they could barely move.”
The circus claims that eleven members of their company are strictly employed to take care of their animals. Furthermore, the circus claims that it exceeds all federal animal welfare standards set by the United States Department of Agriculture under the Animal Welfare Act. But the circus has been cited for denying veterinary care to animals, public endangerment, and other Animal Welfare Act violations. Sign the petition to demand the circus to follow up on its own words to treat their animals like important members of their community or else they should be shut down until vital improvements are made.
Dear Kelly Miller Circus,
Your circus has been in existence since 1938 and has a reputation for being the second largest big top show in the country. Your show earned its current status by gathering some of the best circus entertainers from all around the world as well as having an extraordinary display of exotic animals. These animals are hard-working performers that deserve to be treated like a part of the community. Recent allegations that your handlers have been abusing these animals should be looked into and corrected immediately.
One report asserted that one of your handlers was repeatedly whipping one of the zebras during a performance so intensely that the zebra almost fell out of the ring. Also, eyewitnesses claimed that when your animals are not performing they are kept tied so tightly and close to a trailer that they cannot move. PETA has officially filed an animal abuse complaint against you. Treat your animals better and educate your employees to do the same. On your website, you have in bold that “we love our animals!” Now is the time to put those words into actions.
