Target: Los Angeles Business Council, CLEAN LA Solar Program

Goal: Applaud LA Business Council’s ambitious solar panel program

According to reports from ThinkProgress and the LA Times, the city of Los Angeles is poised to start work on the largest “urban rooftop solar program in the country, with the goal of powering 30,000 homes” sustainably. The project, named Clean LA Solar, marks the latest example of ambitious, environmentally sustainable projects in the city that include a cleantech incubator and massive public transit infrastructure investments.

Clean LA Solar, “the brainchild of the Los Angeles Business Council,” aims to provide as much as “150 megawatts of solar electricity.” The project will draw funding from private investors “that want to invest in [the city’s] push to go green,” up to $500 million. In addition to the obvious environmental benefits of solar panels, any excess power generated by the panels will be paid back to homeowners and business owners.

Los Angeles is renowned for its car-dominated culture and sprawling urban development, with per capita gasoline consumption well above urban Chicago and New York averages. Remedying these challenges and rebuilding the city to promote sustainability will require substantial investments over many decades. Nevertheless, this new project presents another critical step toward achieving a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Los Angeles.

Sign this petition thanking the LA Business Council for its innovative efforts to promote sustainable energy use in the city.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear LA Business Council,

Los Angeles is renowned for its car-dominated culture and sprawling urban development, with per capita gasoline consumption well above urban Chicago and New York averages. Remedying these challenges and rebuilding the city to promote sustainability will require substantial investments over many decades. Nevertheless, your ambitious new project, Clean LA Solar, promises to dramatically reduce LA’s reliance upon fossil fuel consumption while reducing energy costs for thousands of citizens and businesses.

Clean LA Solar presents the largest urban rooftop solar paneling project in American history, with the ultimate goal of powering as many as 30,000 homes throughout the city with efficient, clean solar power. As LA continues citywide efforts to “go green,” the city is quickly becoming a leader on the global green tech stage.

We the undersigned thank you for pursuing the Clean LA Solar project diligently and intelligently, and we hope that you continue leading other cities by example.

Sincerely,
