Commend Football Team for Reaction to Player’s Crime

Target: Patriots owner, Robert Kraft

Goal: Commend the New England Patriots for setting a positive precedent for the NFL.

The New England Patriots should be commended for the way that they have handled the recent situation regarding their tight end Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez was arrested in late June in connection with the murder of a man named Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée at the time of his death. Immediately following the arrest of Hernandez, the New England Patriots decided to drop him from the team.

Upon Hernandez’s being charged with first-degree murder, the team decided to implement a program in which owners of Hernandez’s jersey can replace the jersey with one of equal value at no cost to the customer. They must be commended for putting their customers and fans ahead of potential profits. In a statement released by the team, Patriots spokesperson said, “We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore”. This gesture protects the children from having to wear the jersey of a player on trial for an execution style murder.

In a league that is home to many players who have broken the law, the Patriots are setting an impressive precedent when it comes to players involved in serious legal matters. By doing so, they lay the groundwork for the future. This is also impressive in that they are putting their fans and the children of their fans first. Sign this petition and commend the Patriots organization for taking such swift and positive action.

Dear Robert Kraft,

I want to thank you for your team’s efforts to distance yourselves from the recent investigation into Aaron Hernandez. By allowing for a jersey exchange at your team’s official store, you are allowing parents a convenient way of replacing their children’s Hernandez jerseys with ones that they will feel comfortable letting their kids wear.

Your organization has set an impressive precedent in this case. In a league that has players who are often embroiled in legal problems, the Patriots are showing the rest of the league how to handle such delicate situations. I hope that your efforts to protect your fans, both young and old, from the harsh realities of the situation do not go unnoticed by the NFL and the fans of the league.
