Let Twelve-Year-Old Girl Play Football

Maddy Blythe

Target: Patrick Stuart, CEO of Strong Rock Christian School

Goal: Don’t kick a girl off the football team

Maddy Blythe is a 12-year old girl with a passion for football. She recently got kicked off her school’s football team because she is the only girl there. Maddy has dreamed of playing football since she was a little girl and now she has been denied that chance. The school’s CEO thinks the boys on her team might have “impure thoughts” about her and that she “won’t be able to handle the locker room talk.” Maddy needs support to fight for girls’ right to play sports.

Maddy is a student at the Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove, Georgia. She begged her mother for years to play football, until her mother, Cassy, finally gave in. Maddy started out on her team on the defensive line. She was so good even her coaches bragged about how she hit and could take hits better than most of the boys. During her time on the team, Maddy had the full support of her teammates and their parents, who were proud to show off at the end of the game that the other team had been taken down by a girl.

Recently, Maddy’s mother got called in for a meeting, where she was told by the school’s CEO, Patrick Stuart, that Maddy could not play on the team anymore. The CEO argued that the boys might have improper thoughts about Maddy and that she wouldn’t be able to handle the locker room coaching. On top of that, Stuart said that boys and girls should not compete in any sport and that there are other sports she could play. He even went so far as to say that he “prayed about the situation and this was the right thing to do.”

Since being kicked off the team, Maddy has been fighting back, even giving an interview on Good Morning America. Maddy is fighting for her and other girls’ chance to compete with boys; however, she still hasn’t been allowed back on the team. Please sign the petition to support Maddy and give her a chance to play again.

Dear Patrick Stuart,

Maddy Blythe is able and talented enough to compete with the boys on your school’s football team. She is a high-scoring player who was outperforming most of the boys. Maddy’s teammates and their parents support her presence on the team; therefore their possible harassment towards her shouldn’t even be a problem.

Your decision to kick her off the team has lost your school a valuable player to defend the school’s honor. I urge you to take Maddy back on the team and let her play.
