End the Demand of Human Trafficking

Target: Ohio House of Representatives

Goal: End human trafficking in Ohio

Human Trafficking has spread horror in the United States for many years, exploiting children, mentally disabled victims, and adults, and we are still scrambling to create effective laws to combat it. Recently the End Demand bill was put into consideration by the Ohio House of Representatives, which would increase punishment for the solicitation of minors, provide rape shield laws to victims of human trafficking, and increase the statue of limitations. This bill is crucial in aiding the fight to end human trafficking which is why it needs to be passed into legislation immediately.

The End Demand Act also has an emergency clause in it that allows it to be enforced immediately after it is passed and signed by the Ohio Governor. This act is supported by many anti human trafficking advocates and survivors and could help so many victims. This is a pivotal step in the fight against human trafficking. It also no longer requires minors to prove force, coercion or fraud. Any individual willing to buy sex or sexual favors is contributing to an environment that facilitates human trafficking.

The Ohio House of Representatives has already conducted the introduction of the bill and substituted it after two months; there is no telling how long it will take to be introduced to senators and then passed to the Governor. This problem is too immediate to wait months. By signing this petition you will urge the Ohio House of Representatives to pass the End Demand bill to fight human trafficking immediately.

Dear Ohio House of Representatives,

The House Bill 130, or the End Demand Act, is an important stepping stone in the path to end human trafficking. Human trafficking is an overly common crime and everyday more victims are brought to help and then burdened by problems that arise from laws that are already in effect. Perpetrators of this crime also do not face serious enough penalties for their actions and this bill would fix this.

Time is of the essence and every second counts when it comes to such a gruesome crime, which is why this bill needs to be passed immediately. Its other benefits, such as increasing the penalty of solicitation of a minor from a misdemeanor to a felony and extending the statue of limitations from 6 years to 20 years, are also very important reasons why the bill needs to be passed promptly. It also actively promotes victim safety through the judicial process.

I am urging you to immediately pass the House Bill 130, or the End Demand Act, as it will play a pivotal role in the fight against human trafficking. If human trafficking goes on uncontrolled it will only become a bigger problem.
