Target: Jayden Sink
Goal: Congratulate young girl for selling lemonade for peace across the street from anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church
With the help of her father, five-year-old Jayden Sink raised over 10,000 dollars for Planting Peace by selling lemonade across the street from Westboro Baptist Church. Planting Peace is a nonprofit organization that owns the Equality House, outside of which Jayden placed her lemonade stand. It’s also a humanitarian organization that was founded for the purpose of “spreading peace in a hurting world.” Some of the causes funded by the organization include anti-bullying programs, rainforest preservation, international deworming efforts, and orphanages in Haiti and India.
The Westboro Baptist Church is known for its outspoken opinions on religion and homosexuality. Some of its most infamous actions include holding anti-gay protests at funerals, stomping on the American flag, and holding anti-Jew protests. It is widely known as a hate group; therefore, a little girl selling lemonade across the street from them is a pretty big deal. Not only that, the Equality House is rainbow colored, in direct opposition to the Westboro Baptist Church’s anti-homosexual beliefs. Luckily, more than a dozen active soldiers from Fort Riley showed up to lend their support and make sure no harm came to her or her father from the WBC supporters who hurled insults at them.
Selling “Pink Lemonade for Peace” across from the Westboro Baptist Church was heroic. Please sign this post if you support and appreciate her actions and the people who helped her raise over 10,000 dollars for Planting Peace.
Dear Jayden Sink,
Great job, Jayden. You’re an inspiration to all of us. The Westboro Baptist Church can be intimidating, but you didn’t allow yourself to be scared away. By doing what you did, you’ve raised a lot of awareness and money for an organization that is guaranteed to use that money to better the lives of many different people from many different walks of life.
Standing up for what’s right is very important. More people should be brave enough to do what you did, but please make sure you’re safe while you’re standing up for what you and your dad believe in. Even if you are a brave girl, you’re still a little girl.
Other than that, I can only say congratulations and keep up the good work.
