Target: Olivier Ciappa, a French artist
Goal: Thank French artist, Olivier Ciappa, for raising awareness of same-sex couples rights in France and worldwide.
Olivier Ciappa is a French artist who recently created a photo project – Imaginary Couples – to fight homophobia in France after a serious backlash against marriage equality in the country. His photographs include “imaginary” same-sex couples and families, posed for by several heterosexual celebrities and public figures. Olivier’s project is a determined attempt to open the eyes of the French about the commonality of same-sex relationships in a country where almost half oppose same-sex marriage.
France recently signed same-sex marriage into law, but following that decision major civilian protests erupted in Paris. Despite same-sex marriage now being legal in France, nearly half the population in the country is still opposed to the new law. The backlash from the decision to allow same-sex couples get married is what inspired Olivier Ciappa to create his project.
The idea started with Olivier sharing a photograph of him and his partner with their baby. The photo caused a strong impact on people who shared it on social media. Olivier wanted to reach out to even more people and came up with the idea to stage personalities. He plans to expand his project later in the year and bring the photo exhibition to other countries where homosexuality and gay families are forbidden or where the majority of people are intolerant. Olivier hopes to change people’s mentality and even governments’.

Dear Olivier Ciappa,
Thank you for creating the project Imaginary Couples. In the fight for the LGBTQ community worldwide, every voice counts and every individual’s contributions through art, their voice and their actions are important. Your photo project, with the help of heterosexual people, shows a great example of embracing same-sex couples and breaking down social barriers exposing the commonality of same-sex relationships.
Your contributions are greatly appreciated and I wish you success in expanding the project beyond France and inspiring the hearts and minds of people and governments worldwide.
