Shut Down Zoo That Can’t Provide Clean Water for Animals

Target: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif

Goal: Shut down a zoo that can’t provide clean water for its animals

An anonymous zoo official has told reporters that the Bahawalpur Zoo in Pakistan can no longer provide clean water regularly for its animals. The zoo receives water through a canal system which has been diverted due to construction. The zoo’s curator, Nadeem Qureshi, says that they have been using sewage water since the canal system has been disrupted.

Temperatures in Pakistan regularly reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summertime, and lack of water can be devastating for animals. The anonymous zoo official stated that many animals have already gotten sick and could die due to the lack of clean water. The zoo’s curator stated that the canal would be repaired soon, but this doesn’t change the fact that they have been using unclean water for these animals.

The zoo used to be the biggest lion breeder in the country, yet only three cubs have been born recently. The zoo is also driving up ticket prices, indicating overall failure. The lack of clean water and healthy conditions for animals is obvious—this zoo needs to be shut down. Sign this petition to urge the Prime Minister of Pakistan to close this zoo due to its infringement on the welfare of its animals.

Dear Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif,

Recently, the Bahawalpur Zoo caught the public’s attention with its inability to provide clean water for its animals. The zoo, which receives water through a canal system, has had a shortage in fresh water due to construction projects near the canal which have diverted the flow of water. Many animals have become ill and could very well perish.

The lack of water is a severe problem, especially considering temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. The curator of the zoo, Nadeem Qureshi, has stated that they have been using sewage water for the zoo. This is surely not leading to any improvements in the animal’s lives. These facts, coupled with the zoo’s declining status as a major lion breeder in the country, along with the fact that park entrance fees have been raised call into question the capability of the curator to keep the zoo functioning.

I urge you to shut down the zoo for its inhumane practices of using sewage water rather than finding an alternative way to obtain clean water for its animals. What was once a major zoo is clearly entered a state of decline, and their curator is unfit for the care of animals. Please, shut down this zoo and transfer all of its animals to a place where they will be properly cared for.

You knew this would happen and you did not plan for clean water? You should be locked in one of the cages and made to drink what the animals get!

  3. Vivian Birdwell says:

Try drinking that water and see if you don’t get sick! Send the animals to another zoo till repairs are made till the canal is fixed! It might cost a little money, but it will pay off in the long run. Think of the animals instead of the money!!
