Commend Music Education Program for Helping Disadvantaged Teens

Target: Music Pathways founder Chris Fleckner

Goal: Commend Fleckner for creating a music education program for at-risk and disadvantaged teens

Recently, ABC Music store manager Chris Fleckner founded Music Pathways, a program that provides musical education and opportunities to at-risk and disadvantaged teens.  This year, seven students were selected from Livermore high schools to participate in Music Pathways, where they receive one-on-one training for the instrument they select, then practice together as a band before giving their performance at the Bothwell Arts Center in the fall.

Fleckner says that the program is designed to help students overcome struggles and realize their potential through hard work and discipline.  He is providing the lessons and instruments to the students free of charge, making the program a great opportunity for economically disadvantaged kids whose families cannot afford to buy them instruments or send them to music lessons or other enrichment classes.

Fleckner intends for his program to continue to grow and that he will be collaborating with school counselors and staff to track students’ changes in their daily lives.  He hopes that other schools in the area will be able to join his efforts in providing music education and opportunities for disadvantaged students.

By signing this petition you will help thank ABC Music store manager Chris Fleckner for founding Music Pathways and providing musical opportunities for disadvantaged students who would otherwise not have had the chance to shine.

Dear Chris Fleckner,

Recently, I heard of your Music Pathways program designed to help disadvantaged students reach their potential via music education.  I want to thank you for your efforts in helping at-risk youth overcome their struggles and providing them the opportunities to develop new talents and have new experiences.

I believe that music education is an important part of students’ lives.  Music plays such a big role in our culture and is often a pathway to understanding the emotions and messages of people from all walks of life.  It has been a proven way to increase students’ concentration, determination, teamwork, and ability to express the self.

I hope that your program will continue to grow and provide amazing opportunities for the youth of the East Bay.
