Target: Social entrepreneur Melissa Menke
Goal: Thank a social entrepreneur, Melissa Menke, for establishing a health care enterprise in Kenya that provides its communities with proper healthcare.
Melissa Menke is a social entrepreneur and co-founder of Access Afya – a social enterprise revolutionizing the healthcare delivery system in Kenya. She left her home in the U.S. to start the enterprise by herself as a way to provide Kenyans with affordable and reliable healthcare and prevention screenings, and accurate information about traditional and Western medical practices. Her efforts have provided the locals with a dignified healthcare experience that prevents the people of Kenya from waiting until things get bad to go see a doctor, and have extended comprehensive information on proper self-administration of medicine.
Melissa moved to Kenya from the U.S. in 2012 after studying social business at New York University. She realized she wanted to get involved in community development after her first trip to Kenya in 2007 where she was working with women’s groups on healthy lifestyle and nutrition. Melissa’s intention is to redefine the healthcare experience so that it feels respectful, feels good and empowers people.
Access Afya is a social enterprise aimed to provide healthcare for low-income Kenyans. Their model is to provide healthcare through community-owned mini-clinics that use the latest technologies to deliver high quality, efficient healthcare. Access Afya employs local staff in order to connect with the community immediately and establish its staff as a trustworthy source for factual medical information.
Access Afya provides consultations, information, on-site diagnostics and authentic medication and is looking to include family planning and baby immunizations. Please sign the petition below to thank Melissa for her courage and great efforts to help the underprivileged communities in Kenya get access to basic healthcare.
Dear Melissa Menke,
You efforts to provide the people of Kenya with high quality and efficient healthcare through Access Afya are a great example of a socially-minded individual who cares for others globally. Your courage to leave home and go as far as Kenya has provided many Kenyans with proper healthcare and afforded them the opportunity to prevent their health from deteriorating due to limited access to health specialists or limited finances. What you are doing is a commendable practice that paves the way and sets an example for others who might be interested in doing what you do.
I want to thank you for your work and efforts to make this world a better place by providing people in Kenya with basic healthcare.
