Goal: Stop using a loophole in California law to give away foie gras for free

Despite the ban on selling foie gras in California, San Jose and Campbell residents are still dining on duck and goose livers. Foie gras is a “delicacy” made from the diseased, fatty livers of young ducks. At one Foie Gras production facility, workers thrust metallic tubes down into ducks’ throats and forcibly pump large amounts of grain into their stomachs three times a day. It is through this force-feeding process that the livers become diseased.

California banned the production and sale of foie gras in 2004. Psycho Donuts has found a loophole in the law and has decided to give away foie gras for free. Psycho Donuts also fails to acknowledge what it is doing. One company official stated, “our position is simply that we are Psycho Donuts, and innovating new and unique doughnuts is an inherent part of our DNA.” Other restaurants have found ways around the ban as well. Some restaurants serve foie gras only to “diners who know a secret code word,” while others say that the foie gras served with their entrees is complimentary. These shady and law-avoiding business practices must be put to an end, and that begins with prohibiting Psycho Donuts from giving away free foie gras.


Dear Psycho Donuts,

We are demanding that you immediately stop offering foie gras in all of your restaurants.

It was recently discovered that workers at one of the largest foie gras production facilities forcibly “shove steel tubes down ducks’ throats and pump huge amounts of grain into them three times a day.” The fact that an average of 41 ducks drop dead daily at foie gras production facilities also recently came to light.

These deaths are not peaceful or humane in any sense of the words. The bloating of the livers means that the birds have no space for their air sacs to fill with oxygen, leading to the ducks spending their last days feeling “smothered.” You have been giving away foie gras for free at your restaurants, thinking that you’ve found a way around California’s ban on foie gras sales. The issue has been brought to the public’s attention now, however, and we will not stand for this animal cruelty. We demand that you put an end to all foie gras distribution immediately.
