Condemn Australian Mining Tycoon for Suggesting Sterilization of the Poor

Target: Gina Rinehart, Australian mining tycoon

Goal: To receive an apology for demanding the sterilization of the poor and working classes

Gina Rinehart, is an Australian mining tycoon ranked 16th on Forbes’ list of most powerful women, and is the wealthiest person in Australia. As the executive chair of Hancock Prospecting, and a majority shareholder of two major Australian media corporations, her opinion is widespread. She once suggested that Australian workers be paid two dollars a day for their wages, stating that people in Africa would work for such a small wage. This, however, was not enough for her. Rinehart has now suggested that the poor and working class should be forcefully sterilized.

In a Youtube video uploaded to her official account, Rinehart stated “I believe that any couple making less than $100,000 a year should be forcibly sterilized through a vasectomy or fallopian tubal ligation. Those earning more than $100,000 a year should be encouraged to have as many as 10 or 12 children.” She attributes income inequality to differences in intelligence, yet she refuses to consider that her own wealth and success can only be attributed to working class individuals and miners who have provided the backbone of her organization. Without labor, her entire organization would cease production. She describes Australian issues as “an increasingly elderly population with increasing needs and fewer workers to pay for it all” she continues to call for sterilization of the workforce.

She calls for “eliminating waste and focusing on our brightest, most efficient workers can we hope to see off our rivals in the emerging world” — referring to human beings who she feels are unintelligent as a useless burden. Not only is this an astonishing slight against anybody who has to make a living on their own rather than inheriting multi-billion dollar corporations from their parents, but it is a disgusting attempt to violate human rights of anybody that she personally has deemed unfit for procreation.

Sign this petition to demand an apology from Rinehart to the entire global population of world class workers. Describing the majority of the planet as “waste” is an atrocious, selfish statement, and Rinehart must know that the public does not support her.

Dear Gina Rinehart,

Your recent statements calling for the sterilization of poor and working class individuals is unacceptable. You fail to realize that your own (inherited) success can only be attributed to the working class individuals who you wish to exploit at a pay rate of two dollars a day. Despite that fact, asking officials to deprive individuals of their rights to happiness and ability to procreate is grossly, unbelievably inhumane. Your personal standards of intelligence and income do not dictate the worth of any human being.

Not only have you formerly suggested that workers be paid two dollars a day — now you have called for the forceful sterilization of any family that does not make over $100,000 a year. Do not forget the backbone of your industry: the working class. Without fair pay, they will not support you. If you literally kill them off, who will work for you? I demand that you issue a formal apology to the entire working and lower class populations. A human’s financial position should not dictate their ability to have a family.
