Criticize Fox News for Misogynistic Panel

Target: Fox News

Goal: Urge Fox News to stop allowing sexist discussion on its broadcasts

While Fox News is not the most reputable source of information, it has recently taken its prejudice to a new level by allowing a panel of four men to publicly criticize women for their place in the workforce. Not only did these men voice their disapproval, but went so far as to say that women are dissolving society by being breadwinners in their families. This misogynistic dialogue has no place on a news station, and would better be suited to the Rush Limbaugh show. Ask Fox News to stop broadcasting blatant sexism.

During this broadcast, the men explained in rather unscientific terms how women in the workplace are ending the world. They claimed that, as a result, society will “dissolve,” cause the “disintegration of marriage,” and undermine the social order while damaging children. To top off the chauvinist cake, Erick Erickson added, “I’m so used to liberals telling conservatives that they’re anti-science. But liberals who defend this and say it is not a bad thing are very anti-science. When you look at biology, when you look at the natural world, the roles of a male and a female in society and in other animals, the male typically is the dominant role. The female, it’s not antithesis, or it’s not competing, it’s a complimentary role.” While these men may choose to undermine their own wives, it is unnecessary to encourage others to do the same.

It is true that the number of females in the workforce has dramatically increased in the past few decades. This is the result of a long and hard fight for gender equality, and it is a great success that more and more women are finding their calling outside the home. While this may mean more time away from children and household duties, it is an outrage that a group of men publicly condemned women for their efforts. Such behavior is a pathetic illustration of men who are intimidated by their female coworkers, or worse, who truly believe that women are lesser and do not deserve the same chances as they do.

Just as sad is the fact that a news station will allow this sexism to be broadcast on public television for the nation to hear, and some viewers may even believe that what they hear is actual “news.” In fact, it is a biased presentation that did not even include a counterargument. At the very least, if Fox News wishes to promote misogyny, it should also provide a holistic and balanced representation lest some conclude that sexism is the majority view in this country. Tell Fox News to stop broadcasting this nonsense.

Dear Fox News,

Your recent broadcast concerning female breadwinners and women in the workplace was offensive. Not only did you report on an issue entirely harmless and inconsequential to the American public, but you did so in a way that affronted half the population. Gender equality has been a hard fought battle, and it is not over. Your news cast did nothing but illustrate that these sexist views, sadly, still exist in our society.

While many conservatives in this nation, including your panel of four men, choose to live complementation lifestyles, it is utterly inappropriate to present this as the standard and claim that an egalitarian lifestyle is any lesser. Men who choose to force their wives into submission, and women who choose to accept it, are not the norm in this country. They have not been for almost a century.

Please refrain from broadcasting this nonsense disguised as news in the future.

fox the republican voice of what? there are more women then men in this country. more women vote then men. because of absentee fathers, mothers are forced to work to support their families. not every woman is cut out to be a mom let alone a baby machine. and last i heard we have rights to be what we want to be. we do the same job as some men but don’t get the same salary. maybe even better. sounds 70’s to me but this is 2013, so get over it you republicans and let it go!
